I once did an oil change and forgot to put the drain plug back in. It wasnt exactly the Exxon Valdiz but it was quite the mess.

They are cheaper, usually better compounds are available and better tread technology. For the performance minded folks, the flexible sidewall of a conventional tire is best for hard cornering and tracking.
