SC confused !

Hello guys. I need your expertise. Just visited a local bmw shop that sells AA and ess super chargers. I just placed on order on a hfc xpipe by AA xpipe, and I got talked into getting a supercharger system. I was quoted aprice for AA 535 stage1 kit which comes with the intercooler and other things that the Eas 535 stage 1 kit does not. The price difference is about 3000 between the two, but I was explained that AA system is a much superior system in all aspects of charging and engine longevity. Additionally, i was assured that the eas non intercooled unit pulls hard the inital times but after few pulls the unit heats up and fails to produce. Feed back from SC owners would be great.
The car is used for street dd driving, no track time. thanks
If anyone one has units for sale i would be interested in pricing aswell.

OP, I can only comment on the SC I have - the ESS VT-1 535.

1. I have had it for 14,000 miles or about 18 months.
2. It is not my daily driver.
3. I have had it on the track for a total of 16 days. The hottest at Summit Point Main last July where the ambient air temperatue was 104 degrees. Surprisingly, no issues.
4. I have no complaints with the SC. It performs flawlessly in hot or cold weather.
5. I believe the ESS VT-1 is good value.
6. The difference between stock M3 and SC'd M3 is significant.
7. I purchased from and had my SC installed by iND in Palatine, IL.
8. I am very pleased with my purchase.

I wish you well in your research. This Forum is filled with numerous posts on the various Superchargers available. While I am biased toward ESS, I am sure the other Superchargers available have their good points as well.

Good Luck!
Chris

I can vouch for ESS. I've had my VT2-600 for over a year now and no issues at all. Daily driven including the snowy winter months. I'm close to Toronto in the Hamilton region so if you're down here perhaps I can give you a ride!

If you want to add the option of intercooling to your supercharger purchase you can purchase our VT2-575 kit for $2,495 over the price of the VT1-535. The VT2-575 is intercooled and makes some additional power. For most customers looking for around 550 HP the VT1 kit has a proven history of solid performance, value and reliability. Many members on this forum run the VT1 and have been very happy with it.

I have the ess vt2 600 kiy and its awesome, I love it and would recommend it anyone!

Goodluck on your choice. There are a lot of great kits out there. Take some time and do some research and find what kit fits you best. Def don't jump into the first thing you see. I spent over a month on my personal reasearch until I found the right kit for me.

Good salesmen sell stuff to ignorant customers every day. I don't think the AA kit is much superior. And as noted below, you could have applied the $3000 price difference towards an intercooled ESS kit, but the salesman did not tell you that and you did not bother to do any of your own research. The good news is that none of these kits are bad, whether AA, ESS, VFE, GPower, Evolve, etc., whether intercooled or not. I am sure you will enjoy your intercooled AA kit.

I got a Active stage 2 kit with meth and I had it put on around 43,000 miles. Right now i am over 70,000 miles of daily driving with the kit and its amazing. It pulls hards and you won't be disappointed with the performance. The car drives like a normal car but when you mash the pedal its a another beast. Hot or cold the car will be spinning tires and you'll have better gas mileage. With the same driving style of pushing it sometimes and driving normal, I averaged stock(FBO) around 15.8 mpgs. After the blower i was able to get 18.4mpgs with the same driving style.

All Kits are amazing its your choice but i like having a company thats been around for a a few decades. If you got any question just send me a message.

I'm guessing they get a better margin on the AA kit.
Also, I'd consider the Turner track pipes over the AA HFC X-pipe since the most important area to open up on the X-pipe where the primary cats are. You'll save more than $1,000 too.

Our level one system is essentially a level 2 kit minus the meth system and smaller pulley. Both of our systems come with our large air to air intercooler, oil cooler and the same blower so regardless of what level you chose now, we make stepping to the level 2 down the road an extremely easy thing to do.

Another thing I would like to mention is our level 1 is rated at 560 crank hp and not 535.

The fit and finish of the AA kit is far better IMO. Both kits are nice, but the AA is nicer. Also, the Active kit has a nice airbox that's not sitting 4" of the ground like the ESS kit. If water ingress is a concern, that's a negative against the ESS kit. Support from both vendors is great in my experience, and the knowledge from both is invaluable to this community. I don't think there's a wrong choice to be made, it's going to come down to personal preference. I say if you can, stick with one vendor and the results will be better. If your local shop likes one kit over the other, it may not be because of sales margin. They install and service the cars, and their recommendation goes a long way in my book as a potential client. Much farther than what I read online, and especially by people I don't know
Enjoy your purchase!

Funny how the AA guys all jump in at once.
I'm not hating on anyone; just noticed people were obviously notified of this thread.

Here I am!!! Just kidding!

To the OP, there are a few shops in the TO area that sell and install both kits. Perhaps try posting a thread in the Canada forum requesting a meeting with some sc'r'd owners (perhaps when the weather gets better!) and then you can get some real world feedback and first hand owners experience.

Either way, you'll love a sc'r.
