Man jailed after filming himself driving (BMW) 140 mph

PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) – A man who filmed the speedometer of his car while driving more than 140 miles per hour so he could post it on YouTube, ended up in jail on Saturday and the video confiscated, police said.

Stanislav Vadimovich Bakanov was pulled over by police on Oregon Interstate 5 after he was clocked driving his black 2005 BMW at 118 mph. He filmed Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Postlewait as he approached the car.

When Postlewait asked why he was videotaping, Bakanov said he was filming his speedometer, and his arrest, to post on Youtube. The video later revealed that Bakanov had attained speeds in excess of 140 mph.

He was arrested and confined in Marion County jail Saturday night, charged with reckless driving and speeding. It was his third speeding incident in the past year. The video was confiscated and will be used as evidence against him.

Marion County Police spokesman Don Thompson said winds were gusting at up to 50 mph during the day.

"There were tree branches down on the freeway. To be driving at these speeds today was just plain crazy," he said.

He could have at least hid the camera once he got pulled over. But Stanislav sounds like a Bulgarian name, and Bulgarians are not always the brightest bunch. I'm allowed to say that because I was born there .

i "used" to drive fast (can't say how much), but times has changed, and I don't want to make people's life more miserable by taking their beloved's life away. That was a selfish act on my behalf. Just a lesson to the young ones here: think twice before you do anything foolish.

(Edit) I just watched the video. I would never try that on a public road, especially with rain and traffic even late at night.

it's a russian dude, there is hundreds of videos like that posted by russians driving this way in moscow on ring roads and so on as police is paid off and can be told to fak off they bother you, they only will get involved with ones that don't have connections and aren't REALLY violating laws i.e. driving on opposite road at full speed (Ive seen an X6, an 760Li and 545i do that to name but a few).

Some of those end with camera man shouting "oh noo no no noOooO!!!" and then a sappy story about how all 4 of them died hitting a lorry or tractor or a tree. Don't feel sorry for them one bit. As long as they don't kill anyone else. cruel but true.
