No it's not bad. In fact BMW M3 owner's manual (chapter 13 page # 666) recommends that you do this to your car/tyres first thing in the morning and if you can, before each meal too.

Well he wasn't bouncing it off the rev limiter....... seemed like a fairly controlled burn. Not going to run out and do it in my car, if for nothing else the freaking tires are too expensive. Now when the day comes to replace the tires...... I may just burn them down a little more

It's the same difference between NASCAR and F1 (all F1 fans know what I'm talking about).

It's definitely not good for the diff, the transmission or the motor...all the components are basically free spinning, it's the same idea behind revving up your motor when it's not under load, it revs up too fast and can cause damage. The diff is being subjected to continuous wheel-hop and extreme changes in traction conditions

Seems like a waste and not necessarily good for the car, but if he wants to burn money on tires...

It's absolutely fine for the car, the only thing you have to worry about is the diff and once the tires are spinning especially like the ones in that video there isnt' much pressure on the diff.

Not bad for the car, but fucking retarded - that's for sure.

Maybe he was killing the tires for a new set?
