4/7/13 Black Hawk Farms Free Track day

Yes, a free Track Day, with Lunch, but there is a catch You have to help build the tire wall. It's actually Tire wall day. From 8-11am, you'll help set up tires around the track, after that it's a free lunch, and then 2 hours straight on track! Good Idea to bring boots, and gloves! Hopefully some of you guys can make it out there.

I'm pretty sure this is track touring rather than an HPDE.

The youtube footage I looked at showed folks going all out, which is why I decidecided to do it. A 2 hour touring session would be a waste of time for the track.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I haven't been to the tire wall day in the past. Do you have a link to the youtube video you saw?

The info on the website does say track touring for street cars. When we have run track touring in the past at BFR it has been street cars only, no helmets and a speed limit or pace car.

For this to be an HPDE type event they would need you to register, tech the cars, bring in corner working staff, have medical and rescue on site. I don't see them doing this for only two hours. I could be wrong though.

It's more than two hours depending on how fast we finish the work. Some of these tire wall days have been 3 hours. The vids are on youtube, just type in Black hawk farms tire wall days. One was taken from outside at a corner, and the C5, and 350Z that whized by were definitely at almost race pace. The last open house I did at gingerman for the end of last fall, had us all come off the street, sign a waiver, and run at the track. All you need is to have folks sign a waiver for HPDE. It's obviously your liability if any issues.

You still brought up a damn good point though. I now have second thoughts. I hope it's not your typical track touring event. This video is the one I was referring to:

Honestly looks like touring to me. Title of the video is touring, windows are up on some cars, no numbers on many of the cars, and it looked like one of the cars had a passenger with no helmet on. But I couldn't see any truly definitive helmet evidence either way. The video uploader also says that he was 'powersliding' his 325xi at the event, which isn't typical talk from a HPDE although it does happen.

With that said another video from the same event inside an E46 showed him passing and squealing the tires in the turns, so it looks like the leash is at least a little looser than the track touring I've seen in the past. I still wouldn't say it's an all out session though.

You should still go to this, especially if you haven't driven blackhawk before, I'm sure you'll have fun.

If you enjoy the track and want to go out more, MSCC will be hosting an HPDE there on the Saturday of memorial day weekend. That's an event I have been heavily involved in organizing and running in previous years.

Had an absolute blast! Great turn out. We were done in a little over 1/2 an hour, and then we hit the track. The pace was midway between typical touring, and an all out HPDE. Plenty of speed for me to test out driving without DSC, post LSD install. Will post vids shortly.

Awesome! Glad to hear it!

If you want more there's an HPDE on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Around $165 for 2 hours of track time.
