New Vendor Introduction

Good day all....

Very excited to come to this forum. There seems to be a huge crowd, and a wealth of knowledge here.

SSP Performance is our business. We work solely on the Dual Clutch Transmissions on several different levels.
Here's a short intro to what we do:

SSP Performance specializes in the manufacturing, repair, and service of Dual Clutch Transmissions. Our manufacturing and main distribution facility is located in Minnesota. We are the one of the largest aftermarket company specializing in Dual Clutch Transmissions for Nissan, Mitsubishi, VW, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, and BMW in the world. We aim to offer the highest level of performance, and customer service in the industry today.

SSP Performance is owned and operated by true motorsports enthusiasts. Our staff of 6 full time employees are highly trained and experienced in all facets of automotive service, and race car preparation. From our in-house fabrication specialists, highly qualified sales associates, we truly love what we do for a living, and are happy to serve our customers each and every day.

Our customer service and DCT transmission experience are well documented, and highly regarded throughout the industry. We are extremely active on numerous automotive forums, and are more than happy to share our knowledge and experience with just about anyone. We feel that helping the community is our way of giving back to the customers and vendors that have supported us for so long.

We have a long history of racing and product development experience, and much of what we learn on the track is directly transferred over to future parts development and eventually to our customer’s street cars. This is what sets SSP Performance apart from our competition.

Specializing in Dual Clutch Transmissions allows us to concentrate on a select line of vehicles, and a select line of parts. Producing high quality transmission parts each day is no easy task, I assure you. Over the years, SSP Performance has essentially assembled a “Dream-Team” of employees and support staff. We at SSP Performance strive to offer our customers the highest level of customer service and support in the industry.

Thank you for reading. We hope to get to know quite a few of you in the near future. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about the BMW's DCT transmission.

Welcome

One of the questions I've had about DCT for awhile is how / who can change clutches. (not necessarily upgrading them... changing stock worn clutches for stock new clutches). Is that a "ship the transmission to you" job... or otherwise ?

Good question:
At the moment, a stock clutch is only available from the dealer. They currently are selling the entire clutch basket as an entire unit. The clutch plates cannot be bought separately. (Cost is around 2100.00)

Any BMW dealer has the capability to change out the clutch in this car.
Now that being said, there are a large number of aftermarket shops that could handle this job. We can recommend someone in your area, or you can send the transmission directly to us, and we would appreciate your business.

Welcome! Your expertise should nicely fill a knowledge gap in the M3 community (or maybe just MY knowledge gap).

If I can make a suggestion, one question that seems to pop up regularly is how often (if ever) to change the DCT fluid in our E92 M3's. The vocal consensus seems to be that it should be changed (various intervals have been suggested) but it is not clear how many of us are Actually doing so.

So...where do you come in? I can see two possible options:
1. You offer a DCT fluid change kit (some folks already do this but competition is always nice)
2. Give us some data on:
a. how many E92 DCT's have you worked on?
b. what was wrong with them?
c. what does that experience/analysis suggest in terms how often users should change their fluid?

My hope is that you will vigorously pursue option two! The benefit to the community is pretty obvious...the benefit to you is that it helps establish your credibility (anyone can post an advertisement) and creates some publicity for you on this forum.

These are the same types of questions we answer on all the forums we participate on. The DCT transmission (in all platforms) has roughly the same service intervals. The dealers manuals religiously tell you that you can run the fluid and filter basically forever. Well this cannot be true. All fluids get dirty and break down overtime, no matter synthetic or conventional.

What generally happens to these transmissions is at 10000 miles or so, the factory paper filters become plugged and cannot properly filter the transmission fluid. This sends the filter into complete bypass mode. All most all DCT transmission manufacturers use a paper filter with a bypass option.

For transmission longevity we recommend the following transmission change intervals:

The first fluid and filter change should be done around 10000 miles. This is also a time to be able to see if there is anything going on with the transmission internally. DCT transmissions filters collect a lot of metal particles in them due to wear from gear sets. The filter tells a story of what is actually being moved thru the transmission.
The second fluid change should be done at 35000 miles, and then every 25000 miles after that. This is our recommendation, not set in stone by any means. Now we also recommend a transmission change every season if the driving conditions are extreme due to racing, and high heat conditions. We have serviced many of these transmissions, and also had the opportunity upgrade the clutch assemblies in them.

Yes every dealer wants to push their products up front, but we are trying to change this by helping out with questions on this transmission.
