Love the idea, and can't wait to see it happen!
Just thinking with my keyboard, here... it could be interesting to see both pro/skilled drivers compete AND total newbies. Not against each other, but to highlight each vehicle from both perspectives. While the pro competition would emphasize the peak performance of the machine, the newbs may highlight the more superior operational system. Put folks behind the wheel who don't know the tricks of the track, and the car itself is doing more of the work. Speed, stability and maneuverability are certainly compelling. But for a production car, so too is the car's ability to protect the average Joe from himself. Edit: And yea, I'd hope it's better than the "How NOT to drive the Nurburgring video!" - aye, aye. I think some folks are missing the point here. They want to run cars with similar levels of mods against each other. Therefore if you bring a mod'd 135, 335 or M3 it won't be competing against a stock C63. This isn't a contest to see who's mods are better since cars with similar levels of mods will be matched up for the competition.

You actually have it backward, a skilled driver will have the car doing more of the work, a typical newbie won't even get the car to break a sweat. The newbie may think he/she is fast, but the typically the stopwatch says otherwise.

No one is supplying the C63 or the M3s for us to drive. We are bring our own cars. I for one would not let anyone else (especially a newbie) thrash my car on the track.

I agree with ya.
Thing is, the cars have been tested a million times against each other in stock form. It will be boring. If you test both cars with similar mods it will show all the forum members out there what products work, what products suck, and who knows how to drive. The best advice out there is from forum members that put their car on track and test parts. It helps EVERYONE! I say bring whatever, the more mods the better! |

I agree, the best mods is a hans. But, how many times have these been tested head to head? Hundreds? Forum driving skills? I have NEVER seen a C63 at the track, maybe as a spectator car. I did over 30 track last year, not once in ANY group saw a c63, a few e55 but no c63. Hell, not many E9X m3 either.
Then again I think it should be done on a road course. Autox meh, lets step it up to a track and see what these guys can do! |

Where im at there was always atleast one c63 (up to 3) and atleast 2 m3's (and as many as 5)
Either way I agree that they should not be stock. Also a tuned n54 vs c63 is fair. I can turn down the boost a bit.

How about having a pre-competition play off?
skierman is good (have seen his videos), and GT3 Tim has been an instructor so I think both of them should have a shot at it. I think lucid can drive pretty good too, but he doens't have an M3 anymore. Who else? |

I respectfully disagree. All that does, is a perfect job of exemplifying M3 as an inadequate competiton to the C63, which is why a 335 is required.
Like Martin D had put forward the idea of using his ESS supercharged M3. I would strongly vote for Martin D as he has the right car for the competition plus he has track racing experience as well.

I've raced motox, karts, skip barber, scca, etc and been doing track events for 16 years. I don't really understand the point of this excercise. As has been mentioned if it's just testing the cars this has been done a thousand times in a more objective form, if it's to test mods against each other they should be on similar type vehicles if not the same make/model. If the idea is to test forum members who have some sort of gimmick grudge against another forum it should be a test of driving skill on a proper road course. A couple of straight line tests and an autox aren't really a test of driver or car.

I'd come to watch if it was at an actual road course.

Ya I see your point. I have only done a few schools and auto x with a lot of drag racing. I would just like to do it for fun but there are more qualified people out there.

I would LOVE to.
I have a 2009 E92 M3 (coupe). I am a certified stunt driver. I race in the POC (Porsche Owners Club). I am located in Los Angeles, CA, and will travel wherever needed. Pick me? =) |

Don't know, but that's not too far away obviously. Hopefully the OP will chime back in on the 20th (the day he/she/they said it nominations end) and explain how the voting process will work. Maybe it will just be a poll with all the nominees from this thread?

Just curious, what is a certified stunt driver? Who is the certifying organization?

I have reached out to Skierman64 to see if he can make it. So far there has been very little response from the C63 guys. Regarding mods, the idea is that the cars do not need to be stock, but that the cars are a close match in power to weight. I understand that this may require some different mods to get there. Tires need to be utqg 140 or above.

When I initially nominated myself, it looked like the job start date was going to be later in Jan, so I could have easily participated. Whoever represents us, do us proud.
