Just how exactly did you come about those exact figures to the tenth and the odd %?
Simple arithmetic.

Filled up 13.37 Gallons at the gas station.

Trip meter says 251.4.

So 251.4 / 13.37 = 18.8 mpg on the tank.

2% of 100 is 2 miles. These are my offramps and local streets to work/home.

You've never calculated your commute or your avg mpg?

I do roughtly 10-12k per annum in the car and I would say I am not too heavy footed. I would like to know on average what to expect MPG and what other sneaky bills to expect!

I know it has been posted before but for my peace of mind please I appreaiate the help.

Thanks,

Compared the a 135i your fuel costs will be a touch under double.

For example my 335i gets 32 mpg highway and the M3 gets 17 mpg highway. I get 24 mpg city and the M3 gets 13 mpg city.

In my oppinion this is the biggest downside to the M3.

MPG yes, not the commute and I was wondering if it was a longer average, that is why I asked. The car (or any for that fact) can and will give you different numbers on different fills, like it has been said, depends on the driving style that cannot be exact all the time.

Thanks for responding

PS This is not a car you buy for MPG OP, that is why you get hit with the Prius deal

Compare your 135 and your desired M3. This site will give you an apples-to-apples comparison. All the other evidence given here in this thread is anecdotal. Granted the site is in U.S. dollars, but you can at least see the differences.

Comparing a 2008 MT 135 coupe and a 2011 MT M3 coupe, the M3's annual fuel cost is $740 higher.

What??I have a 335 sitting outside, over the 2/12 years Ive had it I have averaged about 17.5 MPG, the M3 sitting next to it, over 2000 miles has averaged 16. Same guy, same route.

It really just depends on how you drive. Cruising, this car doesnt get awful MPG all things considered. When you get on it a lot it drops significantly.
The numbers I posted are based on personal experience driving both cars. Now that I think about it, they're a little inaccurate because I rev and mess around with the M3 more.

I think real world numbers are a 33% reduction in fuel economy.

If you look at the fuel economy numbers that are done by computer controlled routes they validate the reduction in MPG compared to the 335i of the M3 that I mentioned above.

1Sleeper, your numbers are way way way way off. I average 24.5 mpg in the 335i with very little deviation with mixed driving, 16 even in the M3 sounds about right though.

I retract my the statement that fuel costs will almost double though as that's a skewed number, it's more like 50% more.

Definitely understand that. Its why I never trust what BMW tells the car to tell me. Strangely enough I've never gotten gas mileage this good in this car or could have expected it but I have calmed down with my foot the past week.. Too many close calls with CHP. So on average I used to drive 80MPH on the highway where I would get 15.3-15.0 mpg but now its down to a cool 73-75 on cruise control (so I don't get tempted to enjoy the frills of the s65). I did have a oil change around 14,800miles but don't really want to believe that this is a big factor.

If you can afford an $70,000+ car, that means you're doing very well and gas is not an issue for you. If you are stressing over the gas money, then you are in no financial situation to own any car that is in this class. Jump to a 335iS maybe.

just in comparison, my 2010 335 N54 got 17mpg when modded (420wtq) and 19.7mpg when completely stock. It was a 6MT

I didnt really care about mpg because when you add it up...its only like $50-100 extra per month...

I hear you, the s65 makes it sooo difficult to contain yourself, that is why I cannot drive it daily (not because of the MPG).

Let's mix it up a little, ask about an M5's MPG

Funny, I remember when I looked at an M5 and spoke to a few people I knew who drove them. They got between 8 and 12 mpg. But the sound of that motor.....

How did you know? You're right on the money with the MPG, and yes, that V-10 is worth it alright and is no more.

Actually even in the US where gas is cheap, over a typical ownership cycle, the MPG difference between an M3 and a 335i can result in paying $7000 more asuming gas prices will continue to go up at the historical rate. That's no small chunk of change.

I am just wondering what you consider to be a ....

"typical ownership cycle"

When only looking at gas prices, yes 7gs is scary but....
Have you factored in that wages have also increased historically to compensate? It will be several decades before we see spreads like that. I'm sure at that point 90% of us m3 owners wouldnt have this car anymore.
