Insecure people always think others are judging them. Especially when they do things that not everyone does, like park backwards, they assume all eyes are on them and everyone must be thinking "what a douche, he thinks he's better than us with his M3, parking it backwards."

Stop worrying what others think, they don't give a shit what you think.

I usually run mine without the front plate. I just don't want it on there all the time. Plus, at the track, I don't want the track pics with the silly permanent front plate/holder.

But the meter maids have snagged me several times in the past, so now I have the screw in tow hook front plate, and I keep it in my trunk. When I have to street park the car (which isn't too often), I get it from the trunk and pop it on the front. Haven't had a problem since.

Also, there seems to be a rash of tickets being issued for no front plate in SoCal, so recently, I've been tooling around the streets with it. But it's nice that at the track, I just unscrew it, and replace it with a tow hook or strap.

Okay. This I will buy. In Massachusetts, going plateless is a moving violation and will get you a ticket, points, and the resultant insurance surcharge. Since driving an M3 already makes me a bad citizen in the eyes of Johnny Q. law, there is no reason to tempt fate any more. Oh, and since I am of an "ethnic" background and have dark skin, it makes me all the more likely to be hassled also.

I hope you are just kidding.

I very rarely back into a parking place like shown but now being informed of Tactical Parking I will compleatly avoid it in the future so that no one assumes I am Tactical Parking. Unless there is a confirmed zombie attack. And I probably won't sign up for the Tactical Squad Leader Patch.

You don't back in because you hit things more often.

Fire Trucks are backed in to get out faster, but when backing in they will have a backing guide or they will receive a 5% pay cut for 3 to 6 months. And yes, they have plenty of training and take driving very serious.

I think some of the comments in this thread are more effective at making BMW owners look like Massengills than any parking job.

Never heard of tactical parking. I back in using PDC simply because I'm blind in one eye and that means zero depth perception. No need to tear up the front end for no reason. Do the same in my Ford Explorer which also has PDC.

Regardless, taking up two spots is a one way ticket to douche-baggery

Backing in to parking spaces has been proven to be much more safe by care insurance companies because most parking lot accidents happen when people are backing out of spaces. I know of at least five Fortune 500 companies who REQUIRE their employees to back in to parking spaces at their campuses and those who drive companies cars are required to do it everywhere. Their insurance policies state it.

I rarely do it except in very tight parking garages where sight lines are minimal just to make getting out easier. My State Farm agent actually mentioned making a habit of backing in to parking spaces because they have stats to say there are far less accidents doing so.

Plus... the zombies are coming at some point and I'm going to be tactically ready!

Excerpt from article:
"Benefits of Reverse Angle Parking
This type of parking has shown to be a safe alternative to other types of on-street parking mostly because drivers face towards the road when exiting the parking space and enter into the flow of traffic without backing. Crashes with pedestrians and cyclists are significantly reduced since drivers can see pedestrians and cyclists as they approach the vehicle.

Other advantages to reverse angle parking include improved safety for passengers entering or exiting vehicles since car doors open towards the sidewalk, tailgates and trunks face the curb making access to storage areas of vehicles safer than loading from the street or between cars, no backing into traffic to exit the parking space, less intimidating than parallel parking, improved on-street handicap parking spaces.

Many communities that have implemented reverse angle parking have seen bike/car collisions eliminated after the parking spaces were completed. Tucson, Arizona has reduced their bike/car crashes from 3-4 per month to zero in a seven-year period.

Other Communities Using Reverse Angle Parking

Many communities throughout the country are using this form of parking including, but not limited to:

Charlotte, NC
Arlington, VA
Salt Lake City, UT
Washington, DC
Birmingham, AL
Wilmington, DE
Burlington, VT;
Honolulu, HI."

So, douchebags or not?

Wow. I would just park as far to the left or right in one of the spaces. If i was in my beater car and i couldnt find another spot, i guarantee that owner would be climbing in on the passenger side

I have no offense, in parking backwards. What I meant is, in addition to taking two spots, he had the time to "park backwards".

Which means that he wasn't necessarily thinking of going in and out of the place he was planning to go to very quickly.

Exactly, if no one is waiting behind you driving down a parking row, then by all means... do it. But I hate getting caught behind people, especially with large SUVs or Trucks, that have to back into the smallest spot possible and take 5 minutes to do so... douchebaggery.

I park backwards and relatively close to the car next to me that always parks forwards so it's passenger door to passenger door at work. Nobody at the hospital carpools so it's the safest way to protect my car.

I will admit that whenever I go somewhere new for a meeting or whatever I'll pull up Google Maps and look at the parking lot. If I don't think I can park safely away from all the inconsiderates then I take a different car.

And I'm with others regarding the front plate. I lived in a couple states that required them and never put them on. Sometimes I'd get the ticket for that and the cop would give me a warning for the flagrant speed violation. I'll take it.

I park in two spots when I'm at my condo....because I own two spots and I just pull in at an angle. Someone could snap a picture of that and say I'm being an asshat I guess too

+1, as soon as I see the off center plate it reminds me of a riced Mitshu Evo. The lack of aesthetics equally match his lack of etiquette.
