Highly doubtful any dealer is offering their M5 for 12k LESS than MSRP. My dealer is still charging 10k ABOVE MSRP.

And I said that doctors were making huge profits relative to car dealers. How much money do you think is left over for the dealer after they pay sales commission, staff wages, rent, electricity, etc?
Sticker price is MSRP. I think you mean invoice price.

So according to you, every single one of the the several thousand or so new Mercedes owners here in Honolulu are idiots. Or does the idiot reference only apply to BMW M3 owners such as myself who paid MSRP? I don't know about you, but I'm not that confident in myself to make such a bold statement.
There is only one MB dealer in Hawaii... so a firm MSRP-only selling policy doesn't sound to me like there was any other way to sell the MB cars. There is no other competition...

Mercedes owners in Honolulu are no idiots for paying MSRP, they are just slaves of how things work in a monopoly.

About being an idiot if a customer pays MSRP for an M3 today, well, if you have the kind money to pay MSRP for an M3 or any high priced item without even blinking then you could be anything but an idiot.

Idiots have no money.

So, people that 2 or 3 years ago to get the first M5 were paying sticker...that is a AT LEAST at 10 -15 k profit/sale....

Please don't patronize us by telling us that we don't "have a firm grasp of cost/markup/profit..."

As far as your comments about physicians...wrong again...a doctor can charge a zillion dollars to care for your wife for 9 months and deliver your baby...but he is still only getting $1200 to $1800...the fees are set by the government and insurance companies...sorry for the

stealerships
Since the M5 has been available for a few years now, I'm willing to bet that component costs for that car have dropped (in the thousands of dollars) and that cost savings is being passed on to the dealerships. That's why they're able to offer a discount to customers on that model.

As with any car, if you want to be the first to own a new model series, you should probably be prepared to pay for it. Over time, prices won't come down to the public but they will from factory to dealer, giving the dealer more wiggle room for "deals".

Sure... I'm an idiot... I signed a "deal" (dealer waiving the $10K markup since I'm a loyal customer) back in April when the E93 M3 with M-DCT order banks opened. I'm paying cash and my estimated price (after GGTax and other taxes) will be $88K. Of course the economy has gotten a bit worse since April, so I'll probably ask the dealer to either shave a couple of thousand dollars off the price of the car, or to throw in some extras (alarm, windscreen, floormats... whatever). My expectations are low, but I'm sure they'll do something for me.

I got $5,250 off the MSRP. I am quite happy with my deal, plus no Gas Guzzler Tax to boot.

Same goes for BMW of Honolulu, Servco Lexus, Porsche, Audi of Hawaii and pretty much every other luxury car dealer in Honolulu. There is only one of every one so MSRP on any somewhat limited car is where it's at. That's just the way it goes here. You can always buy from the mainland a save a few $$$ but is it worth the hassle of trying to register the car once it gets here. Not for me. IMO, $1k or even $2k off the price of a $70k car is relatively insignificant whether you're paying cash or financing.

Every car dealer should be lucky to get a fair price over invoice these days.
I completely ignore the MSRP or discount off MSRP pricing discussions.

Always start with invoice and go up from there.

I paid MSRP but then again mine was one of the first off the truck and I wasn't on the list so I was happy to get it and I don't regret. If I were buying now I would definitely get a discount.

The dealer that I work with still claims that the cars are moving within 2-3 days of arrival. I have tried to get $$ off MSRP, but they are firm. What has killed me is the residual value of the car keeps falling and the lease cost has gone up over $3500 over two years since June 2008.

I bought at Pentagon car sales in Germany. The base price is reduced 5250. Not sure what invoice is on an M3. All the options are MSRP, so my car cost me 63k and change. I pick it up in the morning, I can hardly wait. I feel like camping out at the Dealership tonight.

I got mine the second week of March and it was the first batch of M3's hitting dealers. I paid over MSRP and don't regret it AT ALL becuase I was among the first to have one. If you've got the money and are happy, do it. In my opinion, an idiot waits another 6 months or a year after the original release date to buy one just to save a few thousand.

OMG the whining is pathetic. eeeboy has it right.

either buy the car or move over to the VW site and talk about the free plastic flowers in the little cup on the dash.

Next you'll be pissing and moaning about gas mileage. LOL - those threads are even worse!
