ecu tune locked?

Gents,

Brough my in car to moterwerks in houston for a few upgrades. Everything is good however I need to bring it back tomorrow to finish the
ECU tune. Appears that bmw has locked out the ability to change the ECU. They can do it but needed and extra day to hack it or whatever. Is this new for MY 11'?

Just a heads up for everyone.

11' E92, comp package,tech,6spd,extended fox, blk.

I have also heard this. If anyone updates their software then they will get this ECU lock.

Does this mean no ecu at all for MY 11's. Or is a workaround available? yikes.

Dinan and ESS claim to be able to work around it. I think that PowerChip claimed to be able to do this as well? I'm not 100% positive.

We can tune the new locked ECU's. Right now about half of the ECU's we get in for supercharger software or NA software are locked. Every new M3 and any M3 that goes to the dealer will be updated.

My ECU is on it's way back from ESS right now and I'll get it tomorrow. They didn't report any problems so it's all good! I have a Canadian spec 2011 E92 comp pckg.

Powerchip is still resolving the issue - not sure what's the latest status on this, they didn't come back to me..

I switched to GIAC because I had a time attack event

I installed the LCI tail lights and needed the retro fit tailight coding.

BMW machine said I needed to update all other modules, DCT updates, etc, so I couldn't do it any other way and the warning lights re the tail lights were starting to irritate me.

Also the DCT update is apparently a good one as it addresses the lag issue again.

It took 4 hours for the update to programme and it lost connection twice, so ot had to be re done twice.

They also picked up my Blue tooth module was cooked and had to be replaced under warranty, so all in all I was happy to have it done since it gave me an excuse to upgrade from 575 kit to a 600. Nothing wrong with extra lb of boost no??

Sounds like fun. Do you have any issues running the 600 kit without ESS' DCT software?

We have been able to program newer models with the security lock as well in house with GIAC software.

From what Roman has said, there is no issues in manual mode, which I always drive in anyway. When in auto I drive slower

The VT2-600 will run fine with stock DCT softare as well, the shifting will just not be as fast and responsive as with the ESS DCT software.

LCI tails are controlled by the FRM, which have nothing to do with the DME.
