Interesting. No I haven't. I have comfort access, so I might have to leave the back seat down in order to get to the battery in the morning.

Maybe I'll try it sometime this week.

My car was recently at the body shop with it's battery disconnected for 3 weeks and it made no difference. The lag is getting worse. No matter what mode. I drive my VW TDI all the time now. It sucks to be annoyed to drive the M3 ..... :-)

My alternate is a TDI VW as well. The only thing (besides my GF) that keeps me from driving it more is the mushy suspension. Nothing Eibachs and Bilsteins won't cure.

So I just had my car updated and have the report in front of me. I have an ISTA/P version that no one has mentioned to my knowledge which is 36.1.0.2. The integration level is listed as E89X-09-12-512 (old was E89X-08-09-515 and the integration level plant is E89X-08-03-520). So what version 2.34, 2.35, etc. do I have? Oh yea, no lag for now...

IMO the Integration Level is more relevant information, as it describes the software version on our cars.

So bills742, were you able to routinely cause the lag/hesitation to occur before the SW upgrade?

Yes, I routinely experienced the lag. I didn't try to purposely produce it though. My car was produced 03/08 and I had one software update in December 2008, but I don't know what version was installed. That update was done due to a recall.

Hey guys. I just got my Motor Trend issue for February and on Page 120 it has a long term test update that states "I developed a love/hate relationship..." sound familiar? Familiar feelings? Well, he then goes on to state " I also find the seven speed DCT lacking. Slow speed, second gear-crawls seem to confuse it, especially if you need to accelerate from said crawl (as in merging situation) - can't do it smoothly. You either get neck snapping acceleration or barely any speed."

Hey BMW? is that sufficient "reproducing the problem" or would you still consider a Motor Trend tester to not know "normal operation.?" BMW is lucky that in one of those "normal operation" DCT lags the author of the Motor Trend article did not have a near collision or even worst a full out catastrophe.

How about now BMW? Would you admit it and fix it?

FINALLY some validation!!!!

If Motor Trend have a problem then they should have put the car in for the software update...My car has been 100% lag free since I had the update done, perhaps some one could send their test team a clue?

If as it seems the update removed the lag for ~99.9% of DCT owners then it would seem reasonable to suggest that some other factor is causing problem for the very small minority of users who are still suffering lag.
I sympathise with you few guys but banging on about lag as if it is the typical behaviour of the DCT is not accomplishing anything.
It could be something as simple as a faulty gearbox temp sensor as I have noted that the DCT when cold changes gear significantly slower than when hot.

More evidence of DCT shifting issues from Car & Driver, where they say "and the dual-clutch gearbox was still occasionally reluctant to grant downshifts under braking," in their 'The Lightning Lap, 2009 - Feature' article: http://www.caranddriver.com/features...3a05.4_page_13

Although even with the DCT issues, the M3 still beat out some heavy duty competition

With all due respect sir, not sure why you state 99.9% because, other than some I read about in this forum, I know of nobody who the update works for more than a few months. It is typical behavior for every other DCT I have driven and for the two car magazines here mentioned thus far and for two from Spain. I am happy for you that your car's issue is resolved, I really am. It is really irritating that the "typical behavior" you mention is not called typical by us but by BMW themselves to make us who have the lag issue just go away. This issue is more noticeable more because the car is so perfect otherwise and to me, at least in driving dynamics, it SHOULD be perfect. I did not buy a straight-line performance hot rod... I bought an all around performance car... otherwise I would have bought a Camaro.
Again, please know that I am happy for you, but please do not diminish our frustration as simple complaining.

Is your still "cured?" Do you know if your update and integration level specifically mention the DCT lag? Sorry if you have mentioned it before.

Whenever a separate thread comes up asking whether the lag problem is solved and should someone go ahead with the purchase of a DCT M3 the overwhelming response is "yes". This thread alone has a few people for whom it is not resolved and I do sympathise but with so few people now unhappy to me it indicates some factor other than the software (unless it was corrupted when installed).
I was wish you luck with finding an answer...if it were me it would drive me nuts also.
