Help meee

I just ran over what I believe was a 4x4 piece of lumber that somebody left in the road. I was doing about 60 and the car in front of ne swerved at the last second. I may or may not have been messing with my idrive... The tire that hit (left front) did not blow but there is a 3-4 inch section that is beginning to separate from the wheel and was noisier on the way home which was only about .5 mile. As far as I can tell there doesn't seem to be any visible damage or leaks anywhere and the alignment is even still good. The only light that came on was for a brake lamp malfunction in the right rear which I thought was odd. I fully intend on taking it in and having it checked out but if anyone here has any input as to likely damage I would appreciate it. Is it possible that it was just really loud and scared the bejeezus out of me? EDC was set to comfort if that helps. At least I just ordered tires a couple days ago.

Not yet. It just happened about 30 minutes ago and I'm going to have a mechanic friend look at it first to see if I can drive it the 10 or so miles there. But that won't be until tomorrow.

A 4X4 is a pretty big piece of wood... I' definitely get that thing in the air ASAP and check it out before going too far.

Didn't get any air. And I have it up on some ramps now checking it out. I'm definetely not driving anywhere now. Can anyone suggest what I should be looking for? Never was much of a gearhead but I can't find any obvious damage

Was it just your front wheel or did your rear wheel run over it as well?
Did the wood get kicked up under your car?
Any fluids leaking?

Don't no about the damage. But that light is probly a loose fuse any little rattle makes it come out and that light comes on. If you check it you can see it all the dealer is going to do is put a pice of foam to hold it in. That's the reason for ur brake lamp malfunction but that's all the input I can give. Hope all turns out good and nothing is wrong good luck

For any help, you're gonna need to at least post some pics. Other than that, have it trailered to the dealer.

Just the front wheel and nothing was kicked up as far as I can tell. I did find a bit of damage. If you lift the hood there are 4 bolts holding the front quarter panel down. The plastic on the qp broke on the front two. Making it a bit loose. Looks like it could possibly compromise the seal around the headlights

+1.
To OP: WTF?!?! Man, I feel your pain. I would first take the car to an independent knowledgeable mechanic for an initial inspection (better if someone you know) and then dealer. I hope there's minimal damage (hope for none). Keep us posted.

Ya I'm not asking for you guys to fix it just to help me mentally prepare for what they're going to tell me And thanks for the info on the light. p street. Any pics I take probably won't be much help. Its on ramps so I can't even take the damn wheel off. And anyways I haven't been able to put any pics up for some reason.

I usually do as well. I think god just hates me.. About a week ago I was at a gas station and someone backed into me and took off. Not much damage but my beautiful car is slowly turning into a hooptie.

If I was you I call roadside assistance (you paid for it when you got your car, so use it).

Once in the garage you will ge the right help.

you wont necessarily feel it if your alignment is off.

One never quite knows what to do when there's an obstacle of some size in your path. I was driving a rental car once and came across a bag of cement in my path. Drive a wheel over it, drive so that it goes between the wheels, or swerve around it? I chose to put it between the wheels and the car received a big thud from underneath. No ill effects initially then several miles later the oil light came on in some tight corners. Checked the oil and was down 3 litres. The front crankshaft seal was leaking considerably.

Strange things can happen from impacts.

So after all that it turns out there is nothing wrong accept the minor damage I mentioned previously. I had it checked out by a friend who's a mechanic at a Mercedes dealership so I'm fairy confident in that. Won't get my new tires until Tuesday so I'm not still not driving it much and it's killing me.

My suggestion would be to tow it and get it checked out at the dealer (Only if you have warranty) If not take to a local shop where they could take a look at it pretty much like a free 'estimate'
