E92 Values

When I bought my 2013 M3 in 2015 clean low mileage examples were abundant. My car had 8000km then and now has 14000km. I recently had a look at the market here in Canada and generally there are not a lot of cars available but most are high mileage and older model years. If the few 2013's with low miles their values seem to be popping. Clean examples seem tough to find. Any thoughts on where values are going? Has anyone noticed prices firming up?

I noticed it has firmed up as was expected. At this point maybe 5% a year depreciation. Could be less.

The problem with prices are that there are both high mileage vehicles without the CPO warranty. Then there are the vehicles that actually do have CPO, demanding a premium. As a frame of reference, I was offered $58k for my car back in October that had 40k KMs and CPO.

Not sure what current values are though.

I thought CPO could not be transferred anymore unless sold from a true BMW dealership? So wouldn't that be a non-factor in a private sale?

That is a fantastic offer given the current state of the market in Canada. Nothing worthy listed over $50k in Canada right now. Did you end up taking it?

Couldn't part ways with my car :P No clue what I would have replaced it with.

The problem is that 10 year old cars with a high value aren’t easy to get private loans for... at least not for enough people that want to buy them. Demand will be low.

This will hurt sales and market value in general.

I predict that they follow The same curve as the E46 M3. There are already high teen examples and when you have a spread that large ($17-$40k) there becomes a socioeconomic effect that tends to be undesirable for some.

Guess we need to start rolling odometers back on the high mileage cars to decrease the market value spread, and increase our average market value.

Also own M2 and few other cars. I'm not interested in thrashing M3 it's my favorite and a 1 of 22 santorini blue in Can/US. It's a keeper.

Ferrari dealers were doing that with used Ferraris and with the factory's blessing (that's where they got the tool and instructions) until quite recently...

Santorini Blue is my favourite color for the M3. There were 2 on Autotrader last October but I was too late, both sold in no time... I settled for my second choice, frozen silver. Let me know if you ever decide to sell or if you want a change in color, I'd trade you with cash on top haha

Maybe E9X values will go higher if a tariff is imposed on Euro cars!

Understood. These babies can be driven without being trashed though, depending on definition I guess. Anyways, being a garage queen she'll most certainly pay back a fair part of what you once paid.

Planning on selling?

This would probably just bring the average market value down as more people that make 50k want the car than ever and they won’t be eligible for a loan on a $35k 10 year old car.

But maybe I have my supply and demand wrong?

As ever, minty low mileage cars will continue to be outliers and so will the high mileage, dumpster fires...

There are 14 cars in Canada and 8 in the US so to see two listed is a rare moment in time.

That's my car!! I've got a Santorini Blue here in Canada (Calgary), full CPO until August 2019 42k kms and right before Christmas a guy offered me $59k CAD for it but due to the rarity and how much I love the car I had to keep it..

There's always the factor of where current cars are going, which is the reason 997 Pcars took off so much. This is the last naturally aspirated M car made. People sell their F8x cars to get back into this chassis. I'm not saying it's going to follow the 997 cause that's just absurd, but I wouldn't be surprised if the market for clean E9xs bottoms out in the next year or two and slowly trends back upwards. Slowly. My E90 is 1 of 16 made in IB with these options. Still don't think it's worth a lot right now.

Lol yeah I know, it's one of the rarest colors and I regret not pulling the trigger on either car. But oh well, I still enjoy the frozen silver, it has relatively low kms and is in pretty good condition so I'm happy about that.
