The third picture shows it separated. There is a small chance it is partially melted and basically soldered together. I would have already just cut the connector out and hard wired it back together with the new knob. Not worth spending more than a couple minutes on the connector. |

Judging by the fact you have not cut it yet I am assuming your electric knowledge is limited and tools/ parts are limited as well.
It's very simple but not sure you have what is needed. Cut each wire, strip the end and reconnect using butt connectors. I certainly would not just cut it, strip it, spin the wires back together and tape it. It would work but a very novice and incorrect way of doing it. It will work but I would never do it. You can YouTube tons of videos and learn how to do it. You will need 1$ worth of butt connectors |

I am gonna get the following from walmart/autozone tomorrow: 1. Wire stripper 2. Soldering kit (yes, you do get these in walmart!) I am sorry but not sure what butt connectors are. Let me google it up. Thanks for the help! |

You don't have to solder every wire on an electrical system. For something as simple as a bulb it is not necessary.
I would cut the wires and then use the cutters or a razor blades to trim back some insulation around the wire. No need to buy wire strippers for one project. Once a you have a 1/4" bare section you can slide it into the butt connector and squeeze it tight with pliers. It's a simple task that can be shown to you in person in a few seconds which is why I suggested YouTube. I still feel as though that factory connector can be disconnected however |

OMG this is so intense. I can't wait to hear how it goes. Basically, it sounds like you're recommending he just forget about the electrical clip and cut the wires "outside" of the clip. Then, when he buttons everything back up, re-connect the wires using butt connectors.
It's nice to have mechanically inclined friends to call!

I think you need you to insert a small precision screwdriver inside one of those holes and releasing an internal tab while pulling the plug apart.
Worst case, just cut wires on the shift knob in the middle, separate the wires and tape up. The ZHP shift knob is not lighted anyways. |

Nest step is to go and get some glue. The leather is thick and the ring isn't snapping in. |

You got me thinking with this thread. I did some research and liked what I saw and read about this shifter setup as I don't like the stock shifter. Just ordered a f10 m5 setup off ECS.
It's nice this forum is free but it sure costs me alot of money in parts. |

I am glad I made you a couple of hundred bucks lighter You will really love it though, trust me. Really changes the feel of the shifts and looks much MUCH better. Pics don't do it justice. Also, I would suggest using Gorilla Glue. Some people do some don't but with the glue, you would get a neater fitment. |
