F10 M5 Shifter Install Help

I bought an illuminated M5 shifter, removed the leather from its boot ring, went to remove my stock e92 M3 shifter and first thing i noticed was there are no connectors in my car. it seems like the PO cut the white connector out of both the shifter and the connecting end in the car. I do have wires.

1) Can i buy just the connector piece? if so part number? (i looked around on realoem, but couldnt find anything, maybe i am not looking in the right place

2) can i just connect/solder the 2 wires to eachother and make it work?

Haha god you never know what you'll find. I believe the answer is yes, as long as you know which wire goes in which side of the clip. Just test before reinstalling everything.

Also note not to clip off anymore wire than you need, they don't give much slack here.

you can buy the "connector" part and make the connections, but the connection won't be 100% perfect, especially when it's connected to a very mobile shifter like the MT.

I bought the little piece, but it would disconnect from time to time (at night time, you notice light going off when u shift 5th or 6th).

Best advice is to go to a local Car alarm/audio shop, jus ask them to connect wires. pay $20, they will use the audio wire method to not only pair them, but also stabilize with heated rubber piece around it so it's 100% connected.

That is an unfortunate finding. Do you want the illumination that badly? I would just soldier the wires together for the easiest/quickest solution. Just twist them together to test if the two are connected correctly and go from there.

Soldiering isn't very difficult. If you have any friends that are into racing RC cars they will be experts in this department have the right tools, shrink wrap, etc.

I was able to find the connector piece from a part out car. Connected the wire to the conmector. Its working beautifully now. I just have to go to a shop so they can solder the connector piece to the wire.

I wanted the connector piece in case i had to remove the center console and luckily i was able to find it.

Thanks for your help everyone
