You just answered your own question. Why not keep the ///M3 and mod it or the GTR? Based on your statement above, you don't want a ///M5.......Phil

My M3 is running out of warranty and I don't like my daily driver to be without warranty so I don't plan on keeping my current M3.
Regarding the M5, the pros are that it is a roomy sedan, the interior is phenomenal and the motor is absolutely unbelievable.... |

This is for a daily driver by the way. The 11/12 Carrera S is a good suggestion I haven't looked into that option enough. Regarding the 2 options i presented, which would you guys do, and which seems like the best deal?

You dont like the looks of the M5 and you want a warranty.. so wouldnt that be crossed off the list?
I rather extend the warranty on the M3 and keep it as the daily driver.

I should have specified, the M5 is CPO, so most components are warrantied to 100k miles.

How many miles on your M3? Still doesnt seem worth the trade PLUS $14k on top of it.
Can get a similar warranty as the CPO on your M3. Much cheaper than 14k too.

CPO sucks - especially compared to a real bumper to bumper warranty. It covers some major things, but there are plenty of things that it doesn't such as clutch, electronics, I-Drive, displays, brakes, etc. AND - it's still a 100k car that requires service and maintenance and it won't be cheap.. From what I've heard a Porsche CPO is a far better warranty. My buddy is having Idrive problems with his 06 CPO and not only will they not cover it, they can't give him a solid quote on how much it'll be to fix it because of component mismatches / firmware differences, etc. (between 1 and 5k) I'll tell you the whole story if you want to hear it - but it's legit and it's BS. BMW wants people like you and I to buy a new car with a new warranty.... I guarantee you they know we love their cars and we want them under warranty. Win-Win for them. There would be some things you'd like about your M5, but there would be some things you'd miss about your M3 for sure. If you want a cruiser, you will love the M5... The Active Autowerke exhaust really makes the car sound amazing. But it won't be as sporty or as nimble as the 3. If you have kids, the 5er is great for road trips and the freeway. I think you should consider getting something different, but newer MAINLY because you brought up warranty as your major concern and reason for selling the 3. My .02 |

Thank you so much for the input.
I'm not leaving the M just for warranty reasons. It also has to do with me being a little bored as well. I didn't realize CPO was this bad... Thanks for the heads up. |

Pick up a low mile '10+ IS-F... but if CPO sucks (I didn't realize that either) for M5... then sounds like GTR... however I didn't think they had much of a warranty either? Or will that be the track car... and the '01 GTR your driver?

I miss the 'engine' of my M5 more than the handling of the M3.... but I loved the styling of the M3 over the M5. Good luck!

Drive an IS-F now. Loved all the BMW's... but the IS-F is much closer to the M5 in acceleration, and nimble like my M3 was. I definitely miss the 'acceleration' on the big end like the M5... very exhilarating.
Peace!

DD the current GTR. Heavily modified Viper or z06/ZR1 for the track. That GTR will be a very expensive track car and the modified Vipers and Corvettes are still going to crush it (and cost a fraction of what a dedicated GTR track car would be).

The e60 may look dated compared to the F10, but there's going to be a huge difference in price. A new M5 with options will be at least 100k+ compared to around 40k for an e60 in good condition.

The old M3 is growing on me. With proper CPO warranty and the price drop they will experience once media starts freaking out about gas at $4/gallon... they will be cheap.
