Wireless Video from Racing Car to Pit
Hey Guys,
I know that this is not exactly the right forum for this but I've tried the WiFI tech forums and some of the manufacturer forums with no luck. I also don't know if this is the right place for this post either. But here goes nothing: Here is what I'm trying to do: I am part of an amateur race team and we are trying to get live footage from inside the car to our pits (about .5 away). I'd like to run a set of IP cameras to a wifi router in the car, boost the signal from the router with the Bullet (signal booster) and an omni directional antenna, then catch the signal with an additional antenna mounted high in pit lane, attaching to an access point with another Bullet then on to our laptops. My only response from this inquiry is that Wireless will just not work for this distance especially with a moving vehicle. He suggested going with an analog camera that transits on a different frequency. Soooo i have no idea what he means by that. Anyhow, does anyone have ANY suggestions for me? I greatly appreciate your help. Rob

You could try streaming it over cellular (assuming cellular coverage around the track.... which in my experience can be a very iffy thing) - but you would need to keep resolution down and compression up to deal with the limited bandwidth.
I could make other recommendations - but they border on true pro complexity some serious costs. |

First of all... thanks for being the first person to reply to ANY of these forum posts. But yeah, this forum is pretty awesome anyhow.
Yeah, the race is at buttonwillow race track SoCal. Middle of nowhere with spotty at best cell data. What else ya got?

You should contact the guys who live streaming at the "24 Hours of Lemons" events. They sometime have streaming in-car setups and it works great.
You'll have to do some research to find them but here's somewhere to start. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/lemons...n-car-race-cam |

The bottom line is that you either need to ride someone else's network - or stand up your own. Coverage and bandwidth of the former is almost always an issue - and cost and complexity is always an issue with the latter approach.
