I know you all are taking about BMW extended warranties. However, I got a Platinum 5 yr./75K mi. (100K mi total) for my '08 M3 with 25K mi through my credit union for only $1980. Sure, the deductible is $250 but the coverage and price is outstanding! Plus, they let me finance it along with the car. Pretty cool.

Fyi, just as a reference, Carchex just quoted me 3900.00 for their Ultimate extended 6/75k warranty, which is good for 6 years from purchase date of the warranty or until the odometer reads 75k.
This is for a 2009 with 28k miles and about one year left on the factory warranty. I drive less than 6k a year so it might be a good plan for me. |

Just called Passport BMW. Here are the quotes - (Gold plan)
6 yr/100K miles from inservice date = $4700 7 yr/70K miles from inservice date = $4800 No taxes. Requires "key read" to determine exact mileage. Any dealer do better than this?

I wouldn't mind a 7/70 powertrain/gold, but NOT for almost $5k!!!! The likelihood of something major going wrong in the first 70k is pretty small. The E9x has proven to be a very reliable car. Clark Howard(financial adviser) feels that extended warranties are almost always not worth the money dealerships charge. They prey on your fears that something unlikely will happen to the car. I might pay $2500 to extend my warranty for a couple years and 20k for some peace of mind but any more than that doesn't make too much sense, especially on a car like mine with only 3 options(SAT radio, Comfort Access and Carbon Leather trim).

Okay. Let me get this straight. An extended BMW warranty of 2 years in most cases will cost ~4200 - ~4700. The e9x is the most reliable vehicle BMW makes. How many of you would pay for this "piece of mind". The law of averages says you are just wasting your money.....the warranty is sold for someone else to make money......not you. Sorry, I just don’t see the value of handing over your hard earned money for something you are likely not to use. Or if you do use it you are paying early. I can see if the price was closer to ~2,000 but apparently it is not. I am not trying to bash anyone’s decision but I believe there are better places to put your money…..

Everyone is saying how they will pay if it's around 2k. If you want to pay 2k for OEM warranty you can do that by getting a regular 3 series. Not the M3. It's almost twice the price in terms of warranty. I think there's a reason for that...

+1. I remember when I had my e46, basically every important engine part was 2x the price of the regular 3. Still don't know if paying $$$ for ext. warranty is the right move. However..it only takes one component failure on ANY part of engine/trans(especially with DCT)/drivetrain to cost serious damage to your bank account

Extended warranty does help with resale, if that is what you are considering. If you are keeping the car for the long term, the power train warranty may or may not be worth it.
One question I have is that the DCT is covered but the clutches are not. How much does it cost to replace the clutches? Do they have to completely dissassemble the DCT? The clutches are covered by maintainence plan though, right? |

Great price. One thing to keep in mind, if you mod the car, they can void the warranty... from personal experience. Sucks.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
