I've decided.

My friends and I pulled up our cars together (M6, M3, 335is) and we compared our exhaust note. The M6's exhaust note was the loudest and best sounding. The 335is also was A LOT and i mean A LOT louder than the M3's. Im not saying it sounded better but some people in the forum claims that's not true so i called up my buddies and we did a comparision. The exhaust noise from the M3 is really quiet compared to the 335is, period.

it will be another story if both get an aftermarket exhaust. A M3 with meisterschaft GT2 is louder than a 335i straight pipe with deleted secondary cats

He decided to get a 335is based on the exhaust noise?

That's weird, because my stock exhaust is louder than my father's '11 CTS-V sedan. It's WAY louder than my best friend's '07 E92 335i, and about as loud as my brother's '11 Corvette with dual-mode exhaust.

Were you guys sitting at idle? M cars always sound sort of crappy when not under load. Although that the 335is is louder does not surprise me. Gotta get sound from somewhere after all!

go ahead and rev the 335is up to redline and compare that with the M3, then come back and we'll talk.

the M3's stock exhaust is too quite IMO,
for a V8 it should come louder from the factory.

I find the exhaust on my 2011 is noticeably louder and deeper than on my 2010. It annoys my wife . At the last track day, one of the Marshals is a BMW tech and he noted how much louder the intake and exhaust sounds on my car compared to the other, older, M3s that were there. He speculated, although who knows for sure, that BMW must have changed something for 2011. I'm not convinced they did but my exhaust is notably deeper and louder. It has actually taken away the exhaust upgrade bug I had with the last M3.

they should be identical. I had 2009 E92 m3 and now 2011 E93 m3, they sound exactly the same. Maybe not noticeable

Typically cars have louder exhausts on engines that don't have a pleasing sound. This makes the 335is exhaust being louder make sense.

It's funny that someone mentioned exhaust sound on the M3s. I swear my 2011 sounds different than my 2008. I swore it off as crazy, but since someone else mentioned it...

a 07 335i exhaust is nothing compared to the BMW Perf exhaust on the 335iS
