Good Reviews/Bad Reveiws

Lets just do a reality check here...

Based on the reviews so far the M3 is..

1. Fast with a capitol F as one author put it. All articles agree
2. Just about everyone says the new car sounds great
3. Most aggresive looking M3 to date
4. Brakes have been reviewed from bad to just adequate all the way to great.
5. Steering has been reviewed as a little light (like the previous gen) but also has been reviewed as great by other authors. Right now I think we are 2/4 on the steering

So its not a supercar but I think these reviews are good and not surprising. All M3's have had somewhat light feeling steering as well as "just adequate" brakes.

The car is shaping up to be great...even the most critical article said the M3 was great!

I agree, yes they all have their negative points, but what car hasn't? but I believe the positives will overrule all the negative thoughts & when more seat time is given the M3 will still be a favorite in a lot of peoples hearts...:rocks:

The points where they say the M3 is great are the ones which are 85% relevant to a luxury BMW, not an M-product.

Explain...show me evidence

Because from what I have seen I havnt seen evidence to support basically anybodies claim.

Show me a face off between the RS4 and new M on a track! Or show me a face off between the E46 M and new M on a track! Show me some kind of numbers before everyone starts b#tching about light steering (which has always been a problem) and poor brakes (yet another neverending M3 issue). I bet the E92M is faster around a track than all previous M3's! I also have a feeling the new M3 will be faster around a track than the RS4.....in my mind that would be mission accomplished. Otherwise this all just sounds like the whining that took place when the new softer Pcar GT3 hit the states.

All available on the 335i

On the one hand, it’s amazingly rapid but also surprisingly civilised for a car wearing an M3 badge. The ride is smooth-going-on-luxury

A good ride would be achievable in a 335i with normal tyres

In the softest setting, this car has an enviable ride quality that is no less accommodating than a regular 3 Series,

Just three quotes which shows that as an everyday proposition, the 335i would be just as good as the M3. But what made the M3 was, if you wanted to throw it down a road, it would up its game and have genius in reserve, not just competence.

Lol, I feel the same way. If you want a harsh ride, go buy any 20yr old car.

Not only are the reviews being read very selectively, but people's own quotations too!

What about the "amazingly rapid" bit? Also, I'm struggling to see how we can criticise the M3 for coming with some of the inclusive options that 335i buyers have to pay extra for?

The M3 will beat both its predecessor and the 335i in every single regard: no review so far seen has suggested otherwise. I'm curious as to what people were expecting? The only person who has brought the E46 CSL into the discussion has stated that the E92 M3 compares favourably with it.

Meanwhile, we are yet to see the conclusion of any relevant head-to-head test or any remotely objective performance measurements. But, while we are waiting for those, we should consider that it is actually possible that the characteristics of the new car that people are now bemoaning are also improving its performance...

Bone-breakingly awful ride and and twitchy cornering are not necessarily synonymous with fast laps. Similarly a large part of the fun people are seeking ought to be derived from the "driftability" of the new model and the engine noise among other things.

I think the true picture will become much clearer as more comprehensive reviews and tests are published - meanwhile £50K says I made the right choice waiting last year when my dealer was trying to sell me a 335i!

Hmmm, you call yourself "THE CSL"..... yet you own a 320i instead......

Something's not adding up here.

Oh, and the E36 320i is a cool car........just wondering why you didn't pick a username like "320i" instead...?

The E36 is known to have a good steering rack. It isn't an M-car, but then the new M direction is softer, so who knows how they compare?

Anyway, what does my car have to do with this? I'm 22 and it's my first car, but on paper reports aren't beyond my level of understanding and the reports aren't universally glowing as yet for the new M3.

EDIT: I used that name on the old Autocar forum when I was about 19 and at the time, the CSL was my favourite car. I only got the E36 in March, and I joined here in February.

Exactly, this is getting really old. I am so excited about having EDC and TUNABLE ride quality. Comfort for long LA freeway cruises and full sport mode for track days. Could life get any better?

Is this how they may be able to keep the US base price down? If so, will this just be a marketing trick? I wouldn't mind not having an I-drive in my car if this is the case though. However, the whole I-Pod thing.....

I feel that the E92 is supposed to be soft feeling (even though aggressive at the same exact time *I love EDC*) because to many of us the car will be a DD car... you have to think of the price it is pretty low compared to a lot of other German Cars out there... the M3 is an amazing car, but it was not meant to be a super car... of course they are gonna make it civilized...

Go drive an E46 M3 and look at its revaiews from back then... the car was a civilized beast

E92 is going to be a Civilized speed demon for its price range especially
