My plan for maintenance with rod bearing considerations

Lurker here. Read a ton of pages now on the rod bearing issue. I thought I would post my plan for maintenance. My thinking is others still under warranty would be interested perhaps.

- car had ~23miles at delivery
- took it easy on break in
- dealer serviced after break in at 1,200 miles
- 11,000 miles on ODO now, waiting for computer to tell me to service it.

I plan the following process out to end of warranty, so if I do have a failure BMW can't deny me.

- dealer oil service every 15k as reminded by computer
- self service every 7.5k castrol edge tws 10w-60, filter (starting now)
- or dealer service every year (depends on mileage over the year)
- black stone analysis every time I self service
- always let car come up to temp before driving away and up to around 180 before a thing above 5k RPM
- leave stop/start feature off
- before warranty ends, pay for Indy to inspect the bearings. Replace as needed.

For context, I love this car and want to keep it a long time. I paid cash for it and got it optioned perfectly for my tastes. So I want to be meticulous about her care.

Thanks to all who have done all the work to explore, catalog, and document these cars so well.

Some or most dealers will change the oil at the one year mark; mine does. If you are a low mileage driver, say 10,000 miles a year, you could figure on six months changes instead of 7500 miles.

My dealer changes mine at 1 year mark every year. No need to wait until specified miles.

no need for idling. start the car and drive away. just keep the revs under 3000 rpm until the oil is warm.
