Anyone remove 2012 M3 gear knob?

Tried for the last 3 days to remove the gear knob on my 2012 M3
Won't budge
I know on my 08 it was just to pull it hard upwards
On the 2012, the knob inner seems to be made out of a softer gummyish material
And I can't remove it
Want to install my ZHP knob

Anyone removed theirs?

I have a 2012 E92 M3. Put it in 6th gear and pulled back and up and it popped off just as it should.

Just thought of this now, I havent tried it but, what if you wrapped the knob in a towel (so not to mar it). Then make a slip knot in a piece of rope and place it around the knob and pull. The rope may give you better pulling power and it would allow you to jerk it rather than just applying constent force.

Ok, let the fapping jokes begin.

I haven't had a chance to take mine off yet. Who designs a shift boot integrated into the knob anyway??

well i have a ZHP knob i'm dying to reinstall
had it on my 08, and it makes a world of difference
i also have a second stock knob i cut, so now i have a boot with the pastic trim, and the ZHP knob that will work together.

i was thinking of something similar
using something that has a U shaped tip
that would slide under the knob
so the knob would be centered in the middle of the U
and using something resting on the floor as a fulcrum
so i can push down hard
it's much easier to push down that it is to pull up
