I've borrowed an Evo X a few times (regular street use, no actual performance driving with it), and while I thought it seemed like a cool car, I wasn't particularly impressed with the steering. I personally thought it seemed more numb than the E9X M3, but I wasn't surprised by this since I expected some loss of steering feel due to the AWD nature of the vehicle.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not suggesting it's bad in any way. I had just never heard this out forward as a consensus opinion. Did I miss something here?
I think you may have. The Evo, along with the STi have extraordinary feedback and feel, despite the fact that they are AWD. The steering in my Evo VIII MR trashes my E90 M3, even with my Servotronic mod.

Hmm, interesting. Thanks for the heads up then. Any idea if the steering feel changed/went downhill after your generation?

I'll admit I didn't spend a tremendous amount of time in that Evo X, but I think I drove it enough to know I wasn't impressed.

Before I even consider the new M3/M4, it is going to have to bang out 20+ minute track sessions all day without missing a beat. I will not drive a car that needs constant cool down time. I will wait to see how owners deal with the new car on hot track days.

Agreed. I've seen limp
mode ruin numerous sessions of guys driving 335i's (both tuned and bone-stock), and experiencing that pain second-hand was bad enough.

People say there will be problems putting all that torque to the ground. Maybe so, but you have to remember that the M3 has never been set up for maximum grip. Rather, they always set them up to be mobile, trustworthy platforms that you can play with.

Otherwise they would have set the E92 up like all the ones you see on track, with 275 or 285 all around and some nice camber...

I'll test drive the thing when it comes out, but I'll probably wait for the M2...

I dont really get the old will be better than new.

I will still like my soon to be old model but the new one will be even more badass. Doesnt make sense to make something newer less capable.

My only complaint is that having had an f30 before, that it will be quite large. But it did drive like a much smaller car though.

Maybe i need a decent priced cpo f10 m5!!

Or i may have to wait this one out until i can get my hands on a preowned lci m4!!

Bmw owners can now say big body coupe!

The new M3/M4 may be M5 fast in a straight line: The BMW quoted 0-1000 meter time for the DCT is 21.9 sec, which is the same as the F10 M5. The MT is quoted at 22.2. In contrast the E9x M3 CRT and GTS were quoted at 22.5 sec, while the standard M3 is quoted somewhere in the mid-23s IIRC. M5 type acceleration with E9x or likely better handling. Sounds alike an unbeatable combo!

I'll probably buy one the minute I get passed by one on the track.

I'll wait until I get passed by one 15 minutes into the third session of the day.

EDIT: I didn't read enough to see the post you were quoting. My post was nearly pointless, but I'm guessing we'll all live.

Buy one after you 'hear' them passing on the track...if that will ever happen. What kills the whole thing for me is the sound. Hell-they managed to make cars like the STI/EVO/GTR sound so good despite being a turdbro.

Unbelievable

I'm sure the S55 will sound as good if not better then those three cars once equipped with the MPE, it just sucks that sound is an option on the bimmers!

There is no doubt it will out perform the E9x M3 in every performance statistic.

It will out accelerate, out brake, and out lap the E9x M3.

But will it the turbo powerplant have the cooling needed for long track day sessions. I know they have released info on an enhanced cooling system. But I will wait to see how early adopters deal with high temp track days. Down time in paddock with an over heating car is a royal pain in the ass. I have yet to own a turbo car that can take a beating like a normally aspirated car, during track days.

As a street car, this thing will be amazing.

i really struggle to understand why you think the S55 is going to sound really good with a exhaust. these new turbo engines are not made for sound. which is why active sound is here.

Just because I had have and still have high boost turbo cars(A4 1.8t gt28rs, TT225, 09 STI, EVO X) and I always managed to found an exhaust system that made them sound really good, not as awsome as the S65 but good enough! Also there's the 335 with the Performance exhaust that sounds pretty decent and the M4 can only be better!

Sure the S55 and S65 are two completly different animals and the S65 will always sound better, but I think that any turbo cars running +20psi will have an interesting sound when coupled with the right exhaust! Now let's just hope that the S55 will be able to see those boost levels!

well i hope for the best. Because i can get over the fact it has a turbo, as long as it sounds really good. rarely do i find turbo cars that SCREAM. And its not until you mess with cats and tune can you even start to hear things. because the turbos muffler so much sound.

maybe its just me when it comes to FI. i prefer supercharger

I'm pretty sure Mercedes AMG makes the best sounding turbo cars.

The s55 stock is running 18psi, let's hope BMW left room to get more power! This isn't a n54 where a tune only yields double the stock psi.

IMO this motor won't sound anywhere close to the s65, but let's hope it sounds decent

more of the problem is not power being left on the table. but the ability to tune the car. it seems like BMW doesn't want people tuning the car. F10 M5s have had very tough time getting tunes. and people think the M4 is only going to get tougher
