BMW twin turbo

I just had the oil changed on my e92 m3. I noticed in the receipt the part for the oil was labelled "twin turbo m3". The weight was listed as 10-w60 the usual stuff. I'm assuming it's the same oil just the designation now goes with the new m cars. Is that a safe assumption or did my dealer screw up?

The new BMW "recommended" oil is called "M Twin Power Turbo" and is manufactured by Shell. Castrol's deal with BMW (yes, it is a business arrangement more than anything) ran out in 2014 and they found another equivalent 10W-60 oil.

Cool. Thanks. I still have several spare liters of the Castrol for when my car needs topping off. Can I still use them?

I asked my service advisor yesterday about my old TWS bottles I have as well, and she explained that Castrol TWS is 100% okay to use for oil changes and topping off...

The odd thing is that the new twin turbo engine oil is supposed to be 0w-40 or 0w-30... Why the hell they labeled the 10w 60 bottle with twin power turbo is a mystery really...

No, there are different weights for different cars. For ours, it's the 10w60 version of the oil. The 30 and/or 40 weight are for non-M's.

the twin turbo bullshit in the name is just marketing. Just like everything in the 80s was TURBO this and that as a superlative adjective

It says twin power turbo, which is nonsensical. Read the label, it says 10-60 for our model year M3s

Yeah, I guess the marketing strategy is to associate "M twin power" to the M line any way they can, including branding the motor oil label.

Would have been cool if the Castrol 10w 60 was called "Naturally Aspirated Power"

It's been about 4000 miles since my oil change with the new BMW twin turbo 10w60 oil and I have had ZERO oil consumption so far. It's been pegged at max since the oil change. Usually by now with the TWS I would have seen some consumption. Anyone with similar experience?

Also I started taking my car to a Indy shop and they recommend liqui moly full synthetic 10w60. I'm very nervous to not use the BMW recommended brand. Am I crazy?

I do not like this new Twin Power turbo 10-60 stuff. I have had to add 3 quarts of oil (Been just topping off with M1 0-40), and I'm sitting at about 6000 miles since I had my oil change. My car barely burned any oil with the Castrol which only needed 1 quart for 7500 miles.

I have not had to add any oil since my oil change. Are you leaking oil somewhere?

Don't think so, but the car will be inspected in about 1000 miles, and I will do another oil change. This time I think I will go with Redline oils, and see how that does.

From my experience I noticed that my S65 prefers Castrol Edge .

Yup, I remember my PC had a "Turbo" button on it. If you turned off turbo, it would run at 1/2 the speed or something. So turbo stayed on all the time.
