Lightbulb Anyone install DVD Headrest replacement system?

Looking for input and/or experience from those who have replaced their headrests with integrated DVD players for kids in the back seats. Don't like the cheesy ones that attach via straps and dangling cords. I believe they work off an FM transmitter that gets picked up by the radio.

I've seen them in catalogs for the generic E9x series. However,

1. The later models ('09+ ???) have a different headrest that is harder to take out. It can be done, but it involves more work because BMW changed it to some sort of active head rest. I'm not sure, other than making it more difficult to replace, if there are any other ramifications for headrest monitors. If you look at the monitors BMW puts in the latest 7 series you can see that they are not "in" the headrest. They sit in a pad behind the full headrest. Looks stupid IMHO.

2. I haven't seen anything specific to the M3. So you may not be able to match the leather (Novillo) and the color with aftermarket monitor headrests.

Hope this info helps. Let us know if you find any more information. I won't be doing this since I take the kids in the SUV which has a DVD and monitor that hinges from the roof. But it is something I half-way looked into for the M3.

Cheers.

Thanks for the info. I have the DVDs in the head rests of the SUV also...I'll just stick with that, didn't know about the active head rest deal. A few websites didn't even let you choose a BMW at all to configure the head rests...now I know why.
