there is no space for a spare tire. you can put one on the trunk, but thats just a normal trunk. if your talking about the area under the trunk then its not big at all. you can fit a few 8x11 books thats all

Yeah, it isn't all that big. I put groceries in there when I only have a few plastic bags. I also put take-out in there so I don't have to worry about it spilling in my car. I keep the owner's manual on the little shelf in there as it is too big to fit in the glove box.

yeah i use it to put take-out so it doesn't interfere with the new car smell that i'm still enjoying. (just 850 miles on my car, delivered 12/17/05)

i put my own 'self made M mobility 'kit in the space, consisting of 'fix a flat' x2 bottles, a tyre air compresor and gauge and gloves. should come in handy hopefully. got rid of my stock runflats 16 inch rims and tyres.
I do not believe in spending twice the money on a runflat tyre compared to a standard tyre. not easy to find 18inch runflats anyway!

Yeah, it's not big at all. Don't expect all the space that should be for a spare tire is converted into storage space. Don't know why BMW can't provide more space even when the spare tire is gone.

I'm going to insulate it and make it into a cooler

It will hold a case!

Wasted space

The storage well is not very large as the picture shows. However, I was under the rear of my 325 and BMW has wasted considerable space to the right side of the car next to the well. Just look under the rear next to the well.

Toooooo bad. There might have been enough space for a small spare.

I like the compartment. It's waterproof (the removable bottom bit anyways) and it keeps smells out of my trunk. I always use it to take food home and stuff - or put bad smelling things in!

:-) Very handy!

Question: will BMW give you a spare tire if you ask for one (sans charge)? Or are you stuck with the run flats?

Jon.

Runflats only...
Some people have changed the tyres out themselves and carry a repair kit.
The runflats are fine (I have 17"). I wouldn't bother changing them personally. They offer a significant safety advantage over normal tyres should you ever have a blow-out at high speed.

Yes and no. I have heard that people have not been able to run more than 10-20 miles on run flats…I guess it all depends on your luck. How much would they charge you for a spare?

Yeah its not too big. I have my 2 cans of fix a flat, some microfiber cloths, gloves, air compressor, tire pressure guage out of the way in there with a bit of room left. On top of it i have my trunk liner which makes it a bit of a pain to get into that storage area but its not like I need to all the time since all the stuff in there will rarely come out...hopefully.

Would that be a decent spot to add a subwoofer to the audio system?

One guy I know put his Brewster's ice cream sundae in there so if the lid came off while he drove home, it wouldn't spill all over the trunk. Oh wait... no he didn't.
