Corvetter paint and film correction

Well, this was a two day adventure that took me from my place in Huntington Beach all the way up to Santa Barbara, which ended up taking 3.5 hours to get there from 6-930 as traffic was horrible. I ended up working until 830 pm that night, and then decided to call it quits to get some sleep since I had been up since 5am. Before going to sleep, I went to the owner’s restaurant for some really good food! It’s an awesome place, great setting, amazing ambiance (good for a date night for sure), and not too far off the freeway, or downtown Santa Barbara…by the way, the food was amazing! If you are ever in the SB area, and you like Lebanese food, you MUST stop in here and see for yourself! The place is called Zaytoon and all info can be found at the website: http://www.zaytoon.com/

Well, moving forward to the detail portion of my trip. I first arrived and could immediately tell that the car was in dire need of some proper loving! Oxidizing paint, holograms, compounded clear film, oxidizing and dirty wheels…this car had it all! The plan was to do whatever it took to get it back to 95%+ and get it looking as best as possible over two days. That meant the wheels were coming off, suspension was to be cleaned and waxed, wheel inners coated with opti-coat, trim degreased and cleaned up, paint correction to be performed with multiple steps, clear film to be restored as much as possible….basically a total make over! Let’s not forget the interior which was not pictured, but received leather cleaning and conditioning and uv protection was applied to the dash, doors, and anything not leather.

Here are the before pictures on how I received the car:

Remember the clear film I mention needing correction:

And some paintwork damage from year in and out of shops, from and to the track, and everyday washings:

Here is a 50/50 of the clear film correction…HUGE DIFFERENCE in clarity and cleanliness:

Wheels came off for some deeper polishing and cleaning. Every single wheel had old weights removed when rebalanced, but the tape residue wasn’t removed. I was fortunately allowed to do that compliments of the tire shop.

After 18 hours of solid work time on this car, here is how I left the car:

And one of my favorite shots from this car:

It was a total of 18 hours on the car, with a total of 7 hours driving (yes traffic was bad on the return trip as well), a very good meal of food in which I had never tried before (Lebanese food) and a solid outcome on the car. Trip well worth it! I actually like traveling from time to time for work. I have a trip to Bakersfield, Arizona and Santa Barbara under my belt now.

Thanks for looking, comment with any questions!

Process:
Wash, clay, dry
Tape, correct paint with three steps, correct film with two steps
Remove, clean, polish, opti-coat wheels
Clean and condition leather and protect interior
Clean engine, door jambs, windows, dress tires

ended up using Menzerna powerfinish and then menzerna sf4500. AND SLOWER SPEED!!! you dont want to chew up the film or heat and warp it. waxed with optimum car wax (spray wax) as it wont aide in the film turning yellow.

premier has a lineup of items for film, Im going to get some of it

2nd picture was the previous detailing attempt...compound residue - which is why the film was so bad! menzerna powergloss and an orange pad was used...
