VIDEO: 2013 Mercedes SL550 acceleration test

Some tests with my dad's 2013 SL550.

I forgot to use my iPhone app for the tests... but I estimated the times using a stopwatch while watching the video playback.

1.) 4.2 seconds
2.) 4.6 seconds
3.) 4.5 seconds

The car has a 4.6L twin-turbo V8 producing 429hp and 516lb/ft of torque!

Its the factory matte grey paint.

And the car is decent, or the times? A 4.2 second 0-60 is pretty crazy for what that car is supposed to put out. Compared to the 650i its ridiculous - I would say this non-AMG SL is almost in M6 territory (ALMOST... but I can't imagine what the SL63/65 can do!)

The 0-60 times are near-M6 due to traction limitations (bout a half second behind); a low 4-second time is expected for a car with its power and weight. A quarter mile spec is a way better indication of how fast a car is, and the SL550 does it in 12.5s @ ~113mph. The M6 does it more than a half second quicker, and just about a full 10mph faster which is pretty damn huge.

That SL is fast as fuck besides this.

True. And I definitely thing the M6 is a faster and better car. I also personally like the handling of a BMW better, but ill be honest, the faster I drove, it seemed like the steering and suspension just kept getting tighter and more precise. Definitely a joy to drive at high speeds. Comfortable too... I was driving with a massage, heat and neck warmer the whole time. :P
