Had my oil changed today at the dealer.......

....and now the car is saying that the next change is due in 15000 miles or May 2017. Is this right? I thought it would say about 7500 miles or a year?

Yeah, that's correct! The 7500 miles you read, from the forum of course, is just a preference of some. BMW's position is 15k miles.

If it is still under the free maintenance they will do it every year regardless of the mileage. How many miles do you expect to go this year. I figure to do mine at 5000 miles and let them do it at 10,000. I think you have to ask for them to do it at one year.

Also they leave the service required unchanged so mine got another change when I got to 15,000 a couple thousand miles after the yearly change .

It is indeed under the free maintenance until March 2017. Had about 5K miles on the oil and indicated it was good for another 2K miles but I had it changed since the year was up. Not clear on why the interval would be different before than it is now unless they reprogrammed it. Honestly, I hate having them do the oil. I can't help but wonder if they removed all the old oil, used the correct oil, etc.

This is correct, i am on the same regimen. My dealer told me they're following bmw's orders and that is what it is : yearly and every 15k (both)

When they reset mine after the 15,000 mile interval it said 15000 and two more years also. I think maybe that is the only option when reset.

I have had mine at two dealers, one in VA and my local dealer. I have a good feeling about both. Could be bad news gets repeated often and good stuff gets left unmentioned. As for now I have no worries about having my local dealer work on mine. I am doing the 5000 mile change myself because I like doing it and to save the money.

On edit: my first oil change after the 1200 mile one counted down and showed it would be OK to go the whole 15000 miles. Did yours want to go only 7500 miles because of the use pattern?

I just bought the car. Records indicate the first change was done at about 950 miles and then again at 8K miles. Now at 13.5K miles and it indicated it was due since it was at the 1 year mark. (although mileage was about 2K away) So the interval now changed to 2 years / 15K miles.
