I've got an E Race and wasn't sure about the volume. Id have given it a try if I didn't have a bunch of money in other mod projects currently

Challenge Street Pipe

I had it paired to an AE rear section. If you would like a sound clip, PM me your email or number and I'll send it over. Thanks for looking.
I second the statement of this pipe refining the sound of the exhaust. I have this paired to a Corsa UUC. Before I added the Challenge Street pipe, I felt like the Corsa was missing something. It had a good tone, but I wasn't happy with it. When that Challenge Street pipe went on the car, it livened it up - both the sound and the low-end feel. It was louder, or course, but it was far from obnoxious. Can you live with it on a daily basis? Yes. My car is actually my wife's daily driver, and I have two small kids. No one has complaints (other than a Bluetooth caller when you're accelerating). In fact, my wife loves the sounds of the car, now.

As far as volume increase...would you say the volume went back to how loud your corsa before break in?

It's now louder than when the Corsa was with the stock x pipe. Consider using this with your OEM muffler. Also sounds great, especially on DCT downshifts, and it's no louder than stock while cruising.

I meant Id assume axle backs act the same in that they are much louder when new and once they're broken in they quite down some. I know my Eisen race was much louder before it was broken in

Basically does broken in axle back + challenge street = brand new axle back

I would argue that you just get used to the sound, in the same way that our cars felt faster the first weeks of ownership, and before any of the inevitable mods. An exhaust break-in is the packing breaking down, which will actually increase the volume, though marginally.

To answer your question of whether it went back to that original Corsa volume - no. But it is very livable. And the amount of compliments I receive is incredible.

Here are some clips of my setup, for reference (hope I did this right):
