I think the M3 will be left in the dust. Obviously Nissan was going after Porsches

Yeah they will quickly introduce turbo-charging if sale figures for the M3 drop...

Only so much the naturally aspirated purists can do...

Question Bow Down?

In the end of the day we are talking about two cars that fit under a different
Categories one car has less power one has more. One has a turbo charged engine one does not. That makes a big difference. (Look at the 335). If you guys remember the Le mans GTR that went head to head with Porsche, it totally demolished the competition (until porsh started whining about the regulations). Taking that into consideration why was the production e46 m3 not in competition with the production Porsche. Same problem it met different specification. When you have car manufacturers that are under a specific regulation in a racing series that is when you see the true heritage of motor sport. This is when the true colors of the car comes alive all the subjective sensations we get from the specific feel of a certain car are all real, and they are magnified by ten. Things like chassis, balance, and overall character of a car are truly seen in the works. The history of BMW is rich in this kind of stuff. Look at the FIA WTCC for an axample BMW is dominating.

Granted the Skyline GTR is an awesome car. I just don’t understand the bow down part.

Although that is true. The General Public with deep pockets doesn't care. All they look at are the results. Plus they're priced similarly.

Do you buy a car for yourself or the general public?

I buy for myself, but what I'm saying is that (car enthusiasts) a very small subculture truely understand the differences in car classes. The rest of the Lemmings just buy on popularity. People always compare apples to oranges to drum up debates that mean nothing, it's the world we live in. But for the record I fit in the enthusiast category.

the prices on M3 and GTR are at the about same range. I think gtr is an option when you are gonna buy an M3.

I agree 100%. The GTR is a DIRECT competitor to the M3.

+1, when your going to buy a car of this price range, you most def. will look at the gtr as its a sporty, able vehicle. as the m3, but it has AWD + TT in the sacrifice of its looks. (i think it looks fugly)

Yeah, the z06, GTR, M3, and Carrera will compete for market share in the 60k - 80k segment. Oddly enough, the Cayman is in there too (although i dont think its selling so hot)

I disagree. Just because it's in the same price range, doesn't mean it's a direct competitor. I'm sure the 6 or 7 series is in the same price range, but totally different car.

Same with the M3/C63/RS4. The focus is also on luxury/style/looks/practicability etc, not just performance.

Another example would be C6 Z06 and M3/C63/RS4. Same price range, but direct competitor??....I don't think so!

What? The GT-R will be competing agains the M3 harder then the C63 can.

These cars are so close together its not even funny. The M3 has nothing on the GT-R, its been leap frogged (not just by Nissan either).

The M3 was known for its 'raw-ness' and its ability to make you feel like a 'boy racer' in a tuxedo.

You can throw all the crap out the window now.

How are they close together?
The m3 is designed under a different motive and specification.
Why don’t you read my post in this same thread.

Why don’t you read my post in this same thread.
M3=Entry Level Luxury sports coupe that was being praised for it's rawness.
GT-R=Entry Level Luxury sports coupe that is being praised for it's rawness.
C63=Entry Level Luxury sports sedan that is fast in a straight line.

Lets see, both have back seats, two doors, front engine, about the same price, and similar luxury features.

Did I miss something?

The whole reason why the E46 M3 always came on top compared to it's faster rivals (RS4,S4,C55) was because it was more sporty and felt more 'racer'. Can you say the same for the GT-R?

What your saying is that most likely GT-R shoppers won't look at the M3 and M3 shoppers won't look at the GT-R. I guess you don't read the boards much then.

I think it has already been concluded that the GT-R out handles the E92 M3. It already does the Nurburgring almost 30 seconds faster.

30 seconds. Even the 335i vs E92M3 wasn't that huge of a gap.

Dude, relax.

Since when is the GT-R an entry level luxury sports coupe? Since when does Nissan make "luxury" cars? Thats what Infiniti is for.

If the GT-R is competing with the M3, then the M3 is competing with the Z06, right? Wrong.
