Anyone have experience with a hail damage claim? (Edmonton)

Just curious...

I was parked outside for an hour yesterday and got caught in the fairly violent hail storm in downtown Edmonton. Upon taking a good look today in the daylight it would seem that nearly every panel on my car has been hit, (hundreds of dents total) with the hood, doors and trunk taking the brunt of it. I imagine it would have been the roof if it weren't for the carbon fiber. Breaks my heart.

I have contacted the insurer and they are going to have someone contact me next week to take a look. That said, I have never dealt with a claim like this, so I really would like to have a little experience in my dealings with the insurance company.

Any info would be appreciated.

cock, that's terrible - i was wondering if that hail would damage cars. I know of a few people who recieved entire resprays, including replaced fenders, hoods, and roof panels. With that said, PDR might save you.

I'm thankful I was in a parking garage. It sounded like golf balls were hitting my building...we certainly weren't standing near the windows.

Good luck.

My old 330xi was written off because of hail damage. It had $15K damage on it. Most likely they will repair your M3 though. Make sure to take it to a BMW certified place to be repaired. I had/still have TD meloche monnex, pretty easy to deal with them.

Yeah, it was coming down pretty hard!

I am hoping it is not a write off, I do not think it was that bad, but I will be fighting for full panel replacement on the hood and trunk...they may be able to pop the side/A-pillar/rear panel dents out. Upon further inspection I have noticed some fairly serious pitting on the front and rear glass and the plastic roof trim took a beating.

I am mostly worried that the adjusters will be so busy with the hail damage that they may glance over something. Thanks for the input guys.

I had hail damage on my 2006 330i. It wasn't what I would call severe but every panel had damage on it. The car went to Doug's place collision center for repairs who ended up sub contracting the damage to The dent clinic. At the end of the day they didn't end up doing any paint or body work since PDR took care of it all, and trust me when I say the car was "straight" when it was done!

Send me some photos and I can tell you if the damage was similar to my car.

Im guessing the alum hood and front fenders will be alittle harder to deal with.

The aluminium hood probably will be harder to deal with, but, the fenders on E9X M3's are plastic and should not be dented.

I haven't had a chance to snap any pics yet, but most of the damage is to the hood and trunk...as BMWLVR stated, the plastic fenders are in great shape. The dents are small, but very numerous...guessing 2-300 dents, not including the chips in the glass.

I have had a chance to talk to the insurance company and was assured that they plan to return the car to the same condition it was in prior to the damage. I am hoping that the PDR works, though I am a little skepitcal on the hood. That said, there are minor "chips" in the glass and even the clear on the CF roof that worry me.

I am sure it will all get straightened out in the meantime and I will keep the thread updated. Thanks for the feedback so far.

If it means anything to you, I never thought in a million years that my 330 would have been able to be repaired without body work. I was really impressed by the PDR work on my car. Hopefully it will work out on your car!!!!

Garage List
Bring it to Modern Autobody and have them look at it. Especially if you are going to run it through your insurance.

We had a big storm in Calgary on August 12th, and our two daily drivers were damaged. The damage is relatively minor, however for an OCD chap like myself, the dents are fairly noticeable. Each vehicle has approximately 150 dents as estimated by a contact in the industry. Preliminary estimates depict a quotation of between $3000-$4000 per vehicle.

Since this will be a claim under "comprehensive" coverage, our premiums will not increase. Our insurance company, the Cooperators have been excellent in keeping me apprised on developments, despite facing so many claims from that one storm. We have an appointment to bring both vehicles to a "Dent Clinic" put on by the insurance company this evening. At that time, the adjuster will either a) book the vehicle in for (PDR) repairs, or else cut us a cheque for the damage.

All the best with your claim, and hope your insurance company takes good care of you!

I had my M3 parked outside up against the garage. Fortunately, I didn't get any damage but did notice there's a new chip on my CF roof.

My other bmw was hit too but I'm not sure if its easy for me to report it as it happend a little bit ago and i *just* noticed.

I think you have some time to report everything...when I spoke to the adjuster, it sounded like they were going to be busy reporting estimates for a couple weeks. I think it would likely be an issue of how much damage there is and how your much your deductible is.

As far as my damage, as I mentioned previously, the insurance company is requesting a PDR quote first and then will address any other repairs needed. The estimate is around 5k in damage, but since it is comprehensive coverage, not collision, it should not show on a carproof. The biggest problem with this process is that it is looking like possibly Nov-Dec to get my car in for actual repair...which means I may have to book it for next year due to our lovely winter season.

the claim will show up in carproof by the way.

if the car hasn't been repaired I can help you with that.

it's a 2012 thread and the hail damage repairs are still going on in Edmonton and Calgary. I have staff in both cities right now doing hail repairs.

insurers extended the limitations on time for making a claim so the repairs will be continuing through to 2013 and into 2014.

I can be of great assistance to anyone in this situation.

That's good. We did the repairs for Royal Oak Audi, just finishing up now. They went through a few dent companies that couldnt handle heavier damage. I saw some attrocious dent work come back that had to be sent to the bodyshop to be fixed properly.

If you have a nice BMW or Audi you need to be hesitant to use just any dent company if the damage is significant. Light damage can usually be taken care of by a local dent company that does the dealer routes but heavier stuff like what happened in the north west part of Calgary is a very demanding process. The Audi Q7's we did took more than 3 full working days just to tear down and put back together... That's without a single dent pushed

Sorry for the late reply, but I did get the damage repaired here in Edmonton at The Dent Clinic...they were pretty backed up (as I am sure you can imagine), but the car has never looked better than it does now. It was gone for a week or so and the aluminium hood was replaced rather than repaired.

And yes, the repair does show on carproof, but the good news is that it was part of my comprehensive coverage so my insurance rates were not affected.

who are you insured with?

I have heard good things about that particular dent clinic location above others. A good friend of mine works closely with them on their small paint referrals and says they do great work. You're very lucky you were referred to good people.

In the Edmonton storm however there shouldnt be much of any panel replacement. On a used car it doesnt really matter (as much as on a new BMW) but all those hoods are PDR'able unless there is no access.
