Still one of my favourite videos ...
Going back a few years ... I had my E90 M3 @ Park Shore BMW near Vancouver for an oil change and the new M4 had just made its way to the lot. The GM was keen to build interest in the car so he asked everyone in the service lounge to come see it. I was impressed until he started it and rev'd it up. All I could think of was a Massey Fergusson Tractor ... still makes me laugh today especially after watching this vid!

Add me to the list. I've always thought it was hilarious too. The IPE sucked worse though.

I have an F80 and recently picked up an E92, both competition package.
Like you I thought the F80 sounded hilariously bad because of the videos online, after buying it and owning it for 8 months I gotta say I really like the sound. It's definitely unique and more exotic sounding than the NA V8 in the E92 which sounds more like smooth American Muscle. Maybe my opinion would change once I get an exhaust for my E92. My F80 has a MPE coupled with a Fabspeed Mid-pipe and in the upper revs, I think it sounds pretty awesome, no rasp. I even got thumbs up from a Huracan owner as I did a ricer flyby in a tunnel past him. With the right combination, the S55 can sound pretty damn good I think. |

But yes, m4 doesn't sound like it builds up a sense of urgency as it builds in the rev range. I recently drove my sons LS3 camaro and really enjoyed the interior sound. Then it suddenly hit me how as I approached redline I was not ready to shift, I was ready to engage but it was time to shift. It was then I once again appreciated the joy of the s65 over just power. I just wasn't ready to let go at 6K rpms! The second verse was lost and boring it became. |
