Unhappy with Akra exhaust @ gear changes

I have the Akra Evo setup with ESS tune. I am happy with the tune and and the performance, the car is smooth and over 4000 rpm the sound is intoxicating.

However I am not happy with the sound when moving up through the gears (DCT), there is a pronounced "boom" especially in the sub-4000 rpm rev range when shifting up.

Does anyone else with a similar setup have the same issues and is there anything that can be done? Everything else about this exhaust is fantastic, the build quality, the appearance, the weight etc. But I feel that Akrapovic should have designed an exhaust that sounded good across the entire rev range, not just at high revs.

I actually like the sound the Akrapovic makes when you shift gears hahaha.

The quick burst sounds like a exhaust sneeze between shifts. I don't notice it that much anymore. I think the exhaust has mellowed out bit after break in.

Yes - sometimes it sounds like a sneeze, which I don't mind, but sometimes it sounds like a hollow boom, which I hate

Have your setup and absolutely love everything about it. Not sure about the "boom" you describe, but love the "sneeze" others mention. Best complementary setup on the market IMHO.

I don't know how anyone cannot like the upshift sounds. In fact every note this exhaust makes is so nice!

for me, I think the "boom" has gone away... I think I've done about 1000 miles since I got the exhaust .. and its noticably deeper, even more amazing and no more boom.. (i think) or maybe I've stopped noticing it..

Sound changes as it breaks in - although I only have the rear section. It was more bassy and boomy initially.

Oh and it you still don't like it, and to make you feel better - listen to the sound the X5M and X6M make at shift points stock - sounds like a fart : )

Sorry slightly off topic...

Getting the akra eve with the eSS akra tune myself very soon.

Do you have any hp gain numbers pre/post installation of the two?

Your stock exhaust does it too. You just hear it more now. Its a dct trait

I think people get used to the new sounds more than 'it changes' with mileage, but why don't you give it at least 1K miles? If you still don't like it then, look for fixes. Good luck.

I didnt dyno my car when it was stock but the hp gain is very noticeable with the akra evo system, I previously had the BMW performance exhaust with the ESS DF tune and couldnt notice any real gain but with the akra evo you remove the cats and that makes the hp gain very noticeable, make sure you get the ESS DF with the akra tune to avoid the dip you will feel with this system below 2000 rpms

Are there any videos which capture those sounds which the exhaust makes?

^ +1

It pops with the faster shifting DCT. 6MT'ers experience a more subtle version of this. I love it all.
