Haven't done mine and have about 40k miles on my 2011. Contemplating it now because a local shop is offering the service for around $2,000.

Had mine done at 83,000 miles, two months ago, at MRF Engineering, Orange Co, CA. The originals were worn. Peace of mind, yes.

I know E93 M3's don't count because they are 400lbs heavier but...
Did mine around 51,xxx miles over at AutoCouture. warranty company was already paying for engine mounts and service so took advantage and had them done at the same time.
They looked pretty good compared to some of the others I've seen on here.

Shop recommendation as your originals holded up ok, or they don't do extended clearance?

Did mine at 29k. Bearings were fine, wasn't really necessary. Theres far too much hysteria around this topic.

Three E9X M3's owned - two E93's and my current E92 DCT ZCP - zero rod bearings replaced.

Ever wonder why it's only the indy shops replacing rod bearings? My large Penske owned BMW dealership has never replaced a S65 rod bearing; RB's on E46 M3 S54 motors under the recall campaign - yes, S65's - no.

No. I don’t wonder. I think the pictures of bearings that have come out of these motors speak for themselves as do the failed motors. I also suspect BMW has instructed its dealers not to discuss the issue, which is in litigation.

Almost every thread I’ve read where someone is asking for advice on a prospective m3 purchase someone always says “get the rod bearings replaced and enjoy”.

Who here has actually replaced their rod bearings? My guess is the actual percentage is low.
I had mine done at 89,000 miles. No symptoms, just did it as a precaution. Daily driver, no track use. The bearings were really bad.

Your bearings may be "safe" this week, but what about next week? Pay a little now, or pay a lot later when you or the next owner have to replace an engine.
I've wondered, what's your opinion on how non internet folk are becoming aware, and still have no issues such that they're able simply perform this procedure. I heard the slightest ever oil pressure related bottom end tap so I did them. I was already aware though. Had I not been I'd likely have blown a motor first.

I bought my 08 with 85K for a GMC dealership. Took the car to MRF engineering the next day to get them done. Did VAC bearings.

This is not a question. If the bearings on my car fails I'll essentially have a giant paper weight. I thought that even getting a new short block to have an engine rebuilt is pretty hard to get.

Malek from MRF had an e90 in the shop at the time that the bearings failed. He said it was going to cost about $20k. This was a used engine. Spend $2500 or $15k-$20k. You do the math.

I still worry about about the bearings(but not as much). I make sure the engine oil is up to operating temp before getting on it. The dash is set to show me the oil level.

Just thinking out loud...assuming $2,500 for a bearing job and $20,000 for a new engine. Break even would assume the odds of the engine blowing is 1 in 8....which seems pretty darn high.

Seems like an insurance would make money if people paid $2500 to gaurantee their engine for 5 years or 60k miles. 1,000 owners pay $2500, that's $2.5 million. You'd break even, even if 125 motors blow up of the 1,000...if only 50 blow up you make $1.5 million....

Replaced mine myself at 92,000 miles. Now have 38,000 miles on my replacement bearings.

This year so far, VIR two track weekends, Michelin Lauren's proving grounds x1, Barber Motorsports park first week of June upcoming followed by Watkin's Glen a week later. Wonder why I replaced my bearings?

I like a good conspiracy story. If the S65 motor has defective rod bearings, as the S54 actually did, why doesn't BMW issue a recall as they did on the S54?

The service manager at my BMW dealership is a personal friend, we served together in the military, I trust him when he tells me his service center has never replaced rod bearings on a M3 S65 motor.

Source for the litigation you mentioned? I'd like to look at the elements of the filing.
