Unhappy VAG's quest to become bigger than Toyota

....is already apparent in the new Jetta: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/26/au...a.html?_r=1&hp

But what might this mean for Porsche?

VAG is taking a shit on loyalists in the US by providing the general american population with "what they want", i.e more interior volume and a lower price. Unfortunately this means we don't get the interior quality, exterior detailing, suspension engineering and engines like our friends in Europe. Such bullshit.

I only like the new Touareg and the current GTi. The new Jetta is a POS. The new Passat is a carbon copy, but a little bigger (meaning BLAND), and the Tiguan is an overpriced status mobile. Let's not even talk about the joke that is the Routan.

I can easily start hating on VW like I was hating on Toyota a couple months back. The only thing is that Audi and Porsche will no doubt benefit from what is sure to be a huge sales surge for VW.

How about we stop un-pimping ze auto and start re-pimping, eh?

The independent rear suspension is gone, replaced on all but one model by a less expensive torsion-beam design.

There's nothing really "wrong" with the new design. But, it just seems so derivative and thus boring.

The Jetta always used to have a more Euro design to it. Even the previous gen looked cool, and the one before that was the epitomy of Euro design and it was sweet looking.

This new Jetta may gain more market share, but I really think VW's success is based on it's Euro-ness. This design has no appeal to younger people or auto enthusiasts as it did 2 generations ago and before.

This thing look like something Hyundai would have made for a Sonata a couple of gens ago.
VW really needs to bring back the Corrado or they'll lose the market they had.

VW/Audi is huge to begin with, so I don't understand this ultra conservative Japanese looking Jetta.
I don't think this will negatively impact Porsche in the least, unless someone at VW/Audi really wants to ruin Porsche.

At first I thought this was for real, then as I went down the line I slowly felt like something didn't feel right. And other things didn't make sense, like the GT3 RS Convertible? Well that took me long enough.
LOL at the last one, the 911 GT2 RS GT3 RS GTS RS 4S GT. That spoiler is epic.

have heard about this before
Aiming to take over toyota is the most stupid idea they've had yet and it will ruin the company, and failing that, most definately the cars

this paragraph is essentially what i think of it all

Quote:
VW has already demonstrated – and repeatedly so, I might add – that it doesn’t understand its own place in the U.S. market, as their new drive for profitability – and volume – threatens to unleash swarms of mediocre VWs on the American landscape in the pursuit of knocking off the Camry and Accord (as if that was some noble quest worth aspiring to), so why should we expect them to all of a sudden demonstrate lucidity and vision with the stewardship of the Porsche brand?
