^I posted those yesterday. They're 3 separate reviews of each car; this is the actual comparison test, which will likely be published in the mag when it hits the stands next month.

Nice review, wow are the performance numbers close. Things are almost identical, right across the board. Which means with all of these most contests will simply be drivers races. I'm still clinging to the quote that the car is a race car with four doors. Very nice. Not a surprise that it took the top crown here as well (again).

A 4s lap gap isn't close, its a ass whooping.

2008 M3  [4.00]
2007 335i  [9.00]
2008 528i  [8.00]
2006 Infiniti - G35 ...  [8.00]
i have to see/hear/feel/drive the lexus... but for what i been reading/seeing about the C63 it sounds like an american muscle to me... lots of HP out of a big ass engine with no handle, on a cheap interior... sounds like a camaro

i have to say tho, the front of the C63 is pretty damn aggressive

Yeah but if you want to go about it that way, it is also an ass-whooping at the strip with the M3 coming out on the bottom.

All of that is irrelevant though really. Most of each car's driving time will be done on public roads. Whatever happens there, like swamp said, will probably be a driver's race.

BTW, it is quite amazing how close they are in acceleration. But the handling department is where the M3 shines, as always. But when it comes to straighline performance, AMG is smoking those two. Can't wait to see how the new CTS-V and the new RS4 will perform against these cars.

A couple of tenths either way at the strip is only significant to the fast and furious crowd who live life a quarter mile at a time.

Four seconds on a 2 mile track with actual turns and braking zones says a lot more about the overall potential of a car.

Streets are for driving, not "racing."

I'll start off by saying I love the simplicity and finish of my 3-series interior.

However, regarding your comment about the C63...

Cheap interior? Surely you can't be serious. Have you sat in one? A black birdseye maple with nappa leather C63 is easily on par with a sycamore anthracite with novillo leather M3, just to give an example.

Also, have you ever owned a Mercedes? Their interiors are usually excellent. An S-Class interior simply puts a 7-series interior to shame.

You know, I completely agree with your notion of the streets are for driving, and not for "racing." I think this point is especially relevant in light of everything that has happened this past year in terms of tragic "racing" accidents.

However, in no way do I believe that you bought an E46 M3 and never gunned it at a light or exceeded the speed limit on the interstate, etc. Unless you bought it exclusively as a track car, there is no way I believe that you never tapped into the car's power excessively on public roads.

I was not trying to condone/promote street racing or anything of that sort. Not even close. I'm just a realist, and I know when people buy expensive/fast cars they occasionally like to have fun with them in the real world.

If you never speed out there in the real world, congratulations buddy.

What does how I drive my car or where have to do with street racing?
I don't care what you believe my friend, just confine those races to the track or the PS3.

It should be real close once it has M-DCT, right?

Car and Driver tested the sedan at 4.1 sec (manual) so the DCT should put it at the 4flat range.

Yeah, it should. I hope. What, do you think I prefer one car over another?

What did my initial post have to do with street racing?

My first post had absolutely NOTHING to do with street racing.

All I said is what matters most is what you will be getting out of the car on public roads, since that is where they will be driven the most. Usually everyday driving is measured mostly by linear acceleration, and not high-speed turns. So, if anything, I was saying that you would not normally be driving the car like a race car on everyday roads.

But then you followed up with "Streets are for driving, not racing."

I do not know what you prefer.

i was just pointing out that the C63 and IS-F had quick transmissions which allowed for "an ass-whooping on the strip." My guess is the Merc my sneak by but the Lexus will fall behind once the M has DCT.

Agreed. It should be interesting when Mercedes comes out with the MCT transmission in the C63.
