What exhaust has no drone?
I am in the market right now for an exhaust system...... hoping to find a used system!!!
From all of the youtube videos that I watched I liked the Gintani exhaust the best and am looking to put a x-pipe on it. Recently having owned a CTS-V with full 3" B&B system w headers etc; I am really looking for something a bit mellow as opposed to the rasp that I hear a lot from European cars. Many of the youtube videos that I have watched has the car sounding great at idle, but a high rasp emits once the RPM's start to fly up. Now, I am all for the "European howl" which sounds more exotic than the large displacement V8's that I am used to, but I honestly cannot deal with the raspy exhaust systems. With that being said, I am also concerned about the drone. A patient of mine had a Tubi exhaust on his M6 and it sounded insane until he hit around 2600-2800 rpm and this unbearable buzz overtook the cabin. That is my first and only experience with drone and while I was interested in a Gintani exhaust, I found someone that was selling it because the drone was unbearable!!! Please help me out here on selecting a wicked sounding exhaust system! I want to go with a full system. It certainly does not need to be the loudest (been there with my CTS-V), but it does have to be absolutely wicked sounding in a good way!!! |

For an exotic sound? Might have to get another car. But the Akra Evo comes as close as possible in that regard with the S65 engine. It's also fairly mello (i.e. not loud), doesn't rasp and you save like 50 pounds over the stock exhaust.

Seriously akra evo? Epitome of fan boys over here my vote goes to the full dinan exhaust. Their xpipe is awesome and the full setup is perfect IMO

Dinan x pipe with M performance catback, or full Akra. OEM mod with test pipes is a bad idea. The only reason I can't vote Dinan rear section is the 2 pipe thing.

Okay I will try to clarify myself with the "exotic" sound. It is my opinion that the S65 engine paired with certain exhaust systems sound much more "exotic" than an American small block with Flow Masters..... that is what I was trying to get at!
Are there any systems that I need to stay away from that are notorious for their drones that way I can go ahead and mark them off my list completely!?!? |

Had that setup.... insanely raspy, completely opposite of what OP wants.

As far as I know, any system aside from the oem mod, m performance, or perhaps dinan will have some drone. It just depends on how much you can tolerate. I have the Active Autowerke exhaust on mine and there is def some drone but its not overwhelming and its something I can live with. If you truly want zero drone I would either just keep it stock or consider the few I mentioned above. |

I have a Dinan catback and drive 80 miles daily. No drone, sounds badass when I romp on it. Took it on a 5 hour drive with two passengers in the back seat. No drone complaints from them.

If you want an exhaust which has minimal drone (there is no such thing as no drone), gives an exotic and race noise all in one + power then our system was designed exactly for this:
Many have described the noise on the quiet section as exotic and sophisticated whilst with the valves open it sounds like simply stunning. |

The biggest advantage of our system is you get two distinctively different exhausts in one package with the following advantages:
- Two distinctively different sound levels - Two distinctively different type of tone/pitch - Same power through both paths We know of no other exhaust in the world which retains the power on both paths. A very very difficult task to achieve. Black tail pipes also coming out very very soon as an option! |

Hum.... black tail pipes would look good with my white E92 especially with the rear carbon fiber diffuser (it came that way when I bought it).
Thanks for pointing out that all of them have some degree of drone. It is helpful to know that I need to know that there is no "eliminating" drone completely once I go aftermarket. This is okay with me. My number one priority by far is sound and then drone is a second priority. W/// thanks for telling me that it was insanely raspy!!! That is absolutely 110% what I do not want. Many of the videos I am listening to the idle sounds so sweet, but once they get on it..... RASPPPPPPPPPPP almost like a beefed up Civic. What are a few of the exhaust systems that I should be looking at that are the furthest thing away from a rasp that has a cool mellow (loud is perfectly acceptable) that really wakes up once its up in the RPM's and I am not talking about an annoying piercing rasp! Guess you guys get the point with the rasp lol. |

Rasp is mainly introduced with least amount of silencing especially in the X Pipe.
You must have at least some type of resonator in the X Pipe to stay away from Rasp. In an ideal world the use of high flow secondary CAT's like in the Akra or our exhaust also reduce rasp. Rear exhausts with no perforated sections at all will also create rasp. Many of the super loud rear silencers have no or absolutely minimal sound absorption material and no perforated sections. |

Anything TUV approved will have next to no drone as they are certified for road usage. They are 15% or so louder than OEM to meet certifications.
...Something like this The tips can be finished in chromed black, satin black, chromed, satin silver or raw polished! Sound clips comparing Sport vs Race. |

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

All exhaust systems even stock you can get to drone a little under the right conditions. The had part is keeping an aftermarket system close to the drone level of the stock system while increasing the overall volume and adding a more agressive note. Rasp in my opinion can be just as annoying but some like it. One of the reasons we made an exhaust is because most of the systems we mated to our cars had rasp or excessive drone and we wanted something more refined for our personal use.
I feel our exhaust system has done a very good job of adding a more agressive note to the M3 without drone or rasp being an issue. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=851603 |

Dinan is probably the LEAST drone'y and cheapest, I've heard akra does drone midly though...M perf for sure won't drone, but it's not a full exhaust. And yes, valved exhausts, but they cost mucho money
