Music Shuffle using flash drive?
So I have a USB flash drive I'm using with the 08 iDrive system to play music.
The way I have the flash drive laid out is Artist folders - Album folder - mp3 files So far I'm a little dissappointed that it only loops music inside of the album folder then after I hear those 10-12 songs I have to back out and choose another album or artist then hone in on an album for it only loop a handful of songs. I've only had the car a few days so I was wondering if there was a shuffle feature where it would just randomly choose a song from any artist/album. The guy at the dealer who gave me the orientation of how to use the car's features said NO there wasn't a shuffle option for using a flash drive. Or would it help to just have all the files on the drive and no folders. I just want it to be able to randomly play any song out of ALL my songs. |

I've tried the random feature and have the same issue as you do. I do believe if you put all your music into one folder or on the drive without any folders, you'll get a full track random. But then when you want to find that specific song...you might be scrolling for a long time if you have 1000+ tracks on there. So I just stick with the folders and choose what I want.

I use an 8GB flash drive plugged into the USB port, and I have my artists and albums grouped by folders. I am able to shuffle the songs by choosing Songs, then tapping the iDrive controller and choose Random. See if this works for you.

Where do you get the option for "Random"?

Look at page 165 of the manual (USB Interface - Selecting a track - Displaying information about the track). If you hit down on the iDrive controller, a window will pop up and just check the Random box.

What stinks is that random doesn't stick. I always want to listen to music with random on. Rather than sticking as an option, random is turned off when the car is turned off.

Maybe it's disconnecting that resets the random. I use my iPhone which I disconnect every time.

ok I found the option. You have to press down on the controller on the currently playing track.
But I notice it is only random for the folder you are in. So I'll have to reorganize the drive without folders.
