Service Information Bulletin. Basically an update to your car that isn't as necessary or urgent as a recall.

I'm wondering if maybe it really is shifting at redline but what you are seeing is just tachometer lag. I don't have a DCT car (yet) but I recall how fast the revs built in first gear with my '02 M3 SMG II car. It hit redline extremely quickly. Does it really feel like it's not at redline when it shifts?

  1. Temporary loss of power at low (speed+gear+rpm) which happens just after some throttle "indecisiveness".
  2. Infrequent ignored upshifts.
  3. Engine stalling during take off.
  4. Ignored downshifts during on limit braking.
  5. Shifts from 2->6 and 3->7 in S mode occuring without shift requests during on limit cornering.
I am sticking to clear bugs here and personally do not consider the following to be part of this list above:
  • Delay between paddle actuation and begining of clutch operation
  • Low throttle sensitivity during low to moderate acceleration take off
I also had the power loss issue at full throttle right after shifting into 2nd. This is NOT a traction control issue. This was in S6 and under full throttle...as soon as the car hits 2nd, I loose all power for 3-5 seconds.

Also, I have had the skipping gears on the upshift issue. But not 2 - 6, just skips 2nd gear. Car goes from 1 - 3. I have been able to repeat it and it is not me double tapping the paddle.

Swamp, I reported a issue with upshifts being ignored with the paddles. BMW have since changed my paddles, and I can report I no longer have any more issues with upshifts being ignored (at least for that use case).

I can tell you the according to BMW TIS, there is no new SIBs for the DKG as of Friday ....

Its possible BMW France are using a different system, and the SIB are rolled out at different times depending on location.

BUT ... until it turns up in TIS, your USA dealer won't be able to do anything.

One thing I am worried about...

I have not experienced any of these issues and I dont feel I need the upgrade. I am enjoying DCT the way it is.

Honestly I cannot help but wonder if some of you guys are experiencing paranoia.

You have to feel the lag.

The downshifting IS an issue.

Put the car in D5, floor it from a stop in first, watch what happens.

Just got off the phone with the new car sales manager. As of today, there still is not a software update available for my 08 E93 DCT, it's been sitting at the dealership for the last 2 months or so.

Hear that Tim ? Hint Hint!

That's correct, doesn't he know that props are for motor boats.

I have to listen to those 130's every morning from my window.

Can anyone independently confirm the existence of the problems reported after my list of items? I believe some are isoloated to individual or a very few number of cars. If the issues can be confirmed I'll be happy to add them to the list.

Hey Guys,

Have been reading this post with interest as me and a business partner got our M3's about 2 weeks ago.
On the weekend his car basically stalled going through a roundabout and nearly caused an accident. We reported it to our service guy and car was dropped off this morning (Tuesday). He mentioned they have a new software upgrade for DCT, it takes around 6 hours to complete, so I doubt we will have the car back today. They are all fully aware of the problems everyone is having.

Will keep you posted on the outcome.

Upgrade on Thursday (hopefully)

I am dropping the car off on Thurs 10/9 for a update while the BMW local rep is there. Hoping for the best because the last 8 track days have been very frustrating. I will know Thurs afternoon if it works.

Yeah it's below 6000 that mine shifts. You can feel the motor drop down out of the power too, it's certainly not tach lag.

I wrote about this issue a month or so ago and many people didn't believe me until they went out and tried it. The car will hold 1st in D1 or D2, but in the more aggressive settings it shifts way short.

I like your focus on the failure of the downshifting during threshold breaking, because this is the #1 concern of mine.
