I get rather anal about post factory paint work especially when it has to be put directly beside a factory finish, in this case the repainted rear bumper cover with the factory-finish rear quarter panels and the trunk lid. In my opinion, I would request a new rear bumper cover (who knows what's underneath that crappy paint job fix) and since it's a new cover, have it painted at the BMW factory. That would make me feel like the car is as good as new.

I don't know about you guys but whenever I order a new BMW it ends up on the lot for a couple days before it is actually ready. I go over after work to check it out and give it an inspection, the next best thing to a paint meter is your fingers, no joke. Run your fingers along every body panel and you will find overspray every time. Do not accept a new car with paint work.

Especially those of you that do ED; you keep one key to the car during redelivery, so it's easy to tell which car is yours, and easy to tell if any damage occurred during the voyage.

Should add that to the "why-ED-is-the-best" list, my car had 0 miles on it at the Welt.

Very good info.. Precisely while drying it and feeling with my hand is how I felt that something was off: from super smooth to rough immediately..

Thanks!
I would take the car to an independent shop (best in town since they are covering the costs, right?) and ask them to inspect the bumper and under it. Any body shop can tell you what happened to your bumper and how severe it got hit.

It sucks bro. I have an M3 on order and I am already nervous.

While it is true that some BMWs are damaged in shipment and require repair at the BMW Vehicle Distribution Centers (VDC), repairs done at the VDCs are very high quality. This clearly seems like a dealer repair and not done to BMW new car delivery standards. You have right to be upset.

FWIW, my 2006 330i was damaged on the ship. I was told that a car got loose in rough seas, and I needed to have both drivers side doors, the hood, and the front bumper replaced. Since it was an ED car, I already took delivery and had 1500 miles on it. So, my only option was to have the dealer provide me a decent car while waiting for the repair to complete.

Btw, all damage done during shipping is repaired at the port of entry, where they have facilities that best match factory finish. It sounds like yours was not painted at the VPC though, which means it was damaged after leaving the port.

Hi larryn! Yes, as far as I can tell, it was done there with a painters apprentice.

The really disturbing thing is their lack of response. Last we spoke was at 3ish.. The day has passed and no reply as to replacing the bumper and making things right. This is frustrating and I now feel I am put on the back burner!!!

Tell them you have 626 people on the M3 forms watching to see how they resolve the issue to your satisfaction! I'd say get clear on how you want it fixed, minus a returned vehicle, and be firm that they need to accommodate. Something similar happened to a brother, on two separate occasions!

It's time to drop the hammer on them. I'm surprised you can't get a hold of the General Manager though, he should be readily accessible by phone through the receptionist at the dealership who's paid to pick up the phone.

Yes, hammer time! My contact has been with the sale rep, and clearly his "Let me talk to my manager" doesn't involve the GM. I gave him 1 chance to make it right, 24 hrs and no response in my book is more than enough...

I prefer not to say until I get this resolved... Either I post a recommendation on their CRM, or blast them for lack of (which the scale is tipping heavily in this direction)..

I'm getting some help from fellow forum members!! -Thanks guys!! Should be speaking with the GM promptly..

On a side note, got an email from the sale rep stating that today is his day off and that his manager would get in contact with me. Got ANOTHER email from the sales rep couple of minutes later saying that his manager is ALSO OFF today, that they will contact me TOMORROW.. So they just leave me hanging since yesterday with no news except these emails. I don't know if I should either laugh or cry...

Have Someone else call Your sales rep with the guise of wanting to buy a car. See if He really has a day off.

I think that would only make it worse for me (anger) if he was working. It's more than evident that they don't want to make it right - They could have called not necessarily with an answer, just saying that they are working at it, getting approval, etc and that he would be off today.. something more in a professional level that I would expect from a BMW dealership.

I'm confident upper management will make it right and have a meaningful talk with the sales rep and his manager.

Thanks for your input guys!
