Paint companies can also pull up paint formulas by make/model/year and location on the car, etc. If you go to http://colorexplorer.rmpaint.com/index.php they only show one wheel paint formula for a 2008-2013 BMW M3 which is code# 20304.
If you cross reference the individual paint codes on that calculator against the RM Diamont Line on this site http://www.autobodysupply.net/SearchResults.asp you will see that formula is for paint that is 34% black, 28% mica white, 11% metallic flake, 7% normal while, 3% gold, 2% blue, and then some other various things. So my guess this color is for the 219 wheels, or possible for the gray between the spokes of the 220 wheels. |

LOL, I run a "square" set of rear 219s for track wheels (and the fronts for a square set of winter tires). I got my two sets of 219s used for rock-bottom prices (like, $175 a corner, cheaper than salvage), BUT I have one set gunmetal and one set silver. So one side of the car runs one color, and the other side runs the other. It's like that old Star Trek episode with the black n white aliens.

My advice is to get some paint custom mixed. The wheels are bound to fade and discolor from years of UV exposure, brake dust, heat, etc. Any competent body shop can mix it for you.

just my 2 cents for anyone who wants to know this.
I got a touch up paint from ebay with paint code A80 Ferric Grey and it does match the gunmetal 219M pretty well. There is a chip on one of my wheel, and I applied couple layers on it and it looks great. I will post pic after I apply my last layer. |
