BMW M Performance Brakes/F80 M3 Brakes...

Just bought a Lime Rock M3 and am considering my brake options. For reference I am coming from a 997.1 GT3 with ceramics, which were incredible. I have read, and read, and...read some more on the topic. I will start with a simple fluid change and pad upgrade for my first track outing. Having said that I am also wondering to myself if the f80 M3 standard calipers would fit on my car? That blue would look great against my orange! I know I know, I'm a horrible person for even considering the color as a reason to make a change. I throw myself on the mercy of the forum...but..will they fit!?

most likely no. However you could get stoptechs/brembos in blue for probably less than it would cost to retrofit, if they can do that.

Nope. Won't fit.

Stoptech can do a custom finish, but for a price that does not make sense. Brembo/IND kind of the same.

Thanks for the response. Do we know how/why they wont fit? If its a simple matter of needing a mounting bracket fabricated, it would seem like a good solution. The whole kits costs less than 1/4 the cost of a Brembo solution. Has anyone actually tried it and discovered what the problem is?

No one has tried with the new M car parts. It is a simply matter of machining a bracket for the caliper, not too certain about the asymmetrical mounting for the new rotors though.

Sterile Stork - I am headed over to Kuni again tomorrow for some paperwork. They have one of the calipers sitting in a display case. I am going to try and take a closer look at it, and maybe take some measurements, though im no engineer. Any idea of who in the PDX area might be able to fabricate a bracket?

Even it was as simple as machining a bracket, still not worth it in my eyes especially for something as important as your braking system.

I would just buy a used Brembo kit (380/380 kits can be had for $5-6k), have it repainted (probably $600) in blue with "///M" logos, and call it good. You'd have a better braking system that was actually designed for the car and wouldn't have to spend much more money than the F8x brakes.

Congrats on the Lime Rock, btw. Those are sweet looking M3s.

It's a shame that it's not a simple bolt-on job, because they really are fantastic brakes. But I agree with everyone else here, better off just buying BBK designed for the E9x.

Even if it did bolt on there is still no guarantee it would work. The brake bias may be different which would affect things like ABS, traction control, and EBD. Additionally, if there is a significant difference in the fluid capacity relative to the OEM caliper, then the new calipers would not be compatible with our master cylinders. It's much better to buy an aftermarket BBK specifically designed for the E90 platform since it's specifically designed and engineered to match our cars.

Bearing Service Co, even Rohm Innovations might really be able to weigh in on the feasibility of the brackets. Keep in mind though some of the concerns brought up by other posters are notable. Such a venture is only worth pursuing under the premise that both front and rear calipers were to be implemented. I most definitely would/will be investigating such a system for myself once I embark down the track-route.

With all due respect, I think you are giving the aftermarket suppliers far more credit for their product "testing" than I am willing to. Every aftermarket system I've seen has a bracket fabricated to allow them to be mounted, and the sizes are all over the map. Essex has a nice small set-up and the Brembo systems are a wide variety of sizes, as are the stoptech's. With the exception of Essex, I would say there is no testing here. Further more, the new M performance brakes which are standard on the new F80 m3, are also available as an upgrade on the F30. I don't think that the risk here is anything to do with master cylinder capacity, or ABS functionality.

But as far as "easy" goes, it sure would be easier to just order one of the existing systems on the market.

Brembo built the OEM F80 brakes you covet so much. I don't think it's unreasonable to believe they did sufficient analysis to determine what they needed to do to make their aftermarket BBKs work with the E9x.

I'm really hoping the new M3/4 Carbon brake setup can be made to work on the E9x.

As long as they're not prone to disc delamination when tracked hard, they'd be a nice solution overall w/ weight & (implied) durability advantages.

Just be super careful when putting on your track setup--or it'lll be time to buy a new rotor! lol

Oh man! I never thought about that! That would be a huge bummer.

Doubt they will work without a custom bracket.

The CCB rotors in the front are 410mm. I don't think there's an aftermarket brake even close for E92.

You're talking about a pretty spendy brake system. Probably not the most cost effective weight/dollar mod. Steel Discs with ducting can be just as durable and fade resistant.
