I NEVER said the M3 is the best thing since sliced bread; in fact the only Bimmers I like whatsoever are M3's and SOME M6's. The M3 is a bit over-priced but these Mustangs are getting ridiculous. Like it or not.

Until they put that beast of an engine in a better chassis with IRS I would pass on it as it still a straight line car.

My 08 M3 was stolen and I rented a 2013 mustang GT for a few weeks. I was VERY disappointed with its handling. The engine was great but it can't handle bumps at all. It bounces way too much in the back.

Wait for the new chassis that will come out with IRS. I think then it will be a contender for track use.

That's my opinion and I came VERY close to picking one up when mine was stolen but in the end I ordered a 2012 M3 because I hated the bounciness and terrible transitioning.

I would buy the Camaro over the GT500 as its proven to handle extremely well on the track and has plenty of power for street use. My problem with the camaro is its weight.

I think the next gen Mustang and Camaro will be amazing. I would hold off unless you prefer drag racing.

The gt500 does 0 to 60 in first gear which helps on that amazing time.
The Camaro, while a tad more comfortable in the rear, is a piece of shit by comparison. Drive both cars for a week and you'll enjoy the lighter weight, nicer interior, and the overall ability to see out of the Mustang much better.

I had an '08 Bullitt Mustang, and I honestly don't understand what you guys are talking about. The rear end wasn't perfect over bumps, especially when it corners, however it wasn't as bad as anyone's making it out to be. I also had a 2011 GT for a week with the Brembos, 3.73 with LSD, etc. and I found the car to be fantastic. It was not as good as my M3, but it was better than a Corvette for every day use, as well as a cross-country tourer.

The Mustang is more car than people give it credit. The solid rear axle is no snake charmer, but it's certainly good enough for any sort of use.

I haven't driven the Boss on or off track, so I can't comment there.

And while we're being honest, for those who don't like the plastics of the Mustang, have you seen what happens to a $70,000+ M3 after 30K miles?! The steering wheel and grab handle trim comes off on your fingers, the seats make noises when getting out of the car, the whole interior rattles like it's a damn Cadillac CTS. That's atrocious!

So for those talking shit about the Mustang, remember that our M3s are not perfect, and for the money, aren't as good as they could be.
You drove a new ZL1? I'm not talking about an SS. All reviews I've read is that it's amazing on the track and extremely civil on the road. Best of both worlds for that person that wants a fun powerful car for DD and weekend track junky.

I actually didn't find the interior ugly on the 2013 mustang GT I had. The new front lights and rear tail lights are a huge improvement over the previous model. I also loved how you can change the colors of the exterior part of your dash to any color plus the middle to another color. That was just a cool and great option that really impressed me.

Roads in Montreal (due to snow an salt in winter) are very bad and I found the suspension VERY VERY bad even my GF commented how she hated it.

My 2011 S4 is a MUCH better handling car.

Like I said I was really thinking of replacing my 08 M3 with the new GT500 but after having the mustang GT I decided on sticking with the M3 and reordered a 2012.

I'm sure the GT500 suspension should be better that the GT but I still can't see it being as good as the comp package M3 that I went for.

I will wait for the next chassis mustang with IRS and pass on this model.

How are you paying $80k for a Mustang?? The GT500 starts at $55k for all the basic goodness. Want the trackpack, electronics pack, as well as a glass roof then you are up to $64k, still no where near $80k.

Now if you are talking about ADMs, that isn't MSRP.

Also, the Mustangs interior is light years ahead of the Camaro's...I think the exterior of the Camaro is actually quite attractive, just the interior still reminds me of a Cavalier.

Come on, dude. Dealer's are gonna jack the shit out of these 2013 models on account of all the hype they are receiving. It's just like any other car (GT-R, etc.). Quote me on it.

I'm sorry, but I care about more than just horsepower in a car. I still think the mustang is ugly as sh*t. I just couldn't bring myself to owning one for anything other than just track use. It does nothing for me when I see one ride by. Add another 500 more hp in it and its still ugly. No thanks

You're actually VERY wrong... As I've mentioned in this thread I was actually thinking of getting one. I negotiated 4k off MSRP with almost all options.

I'm in the BMW app so can't tell where you're from but I went to a local Ford dealership in Montreal.

I knew I could get about 4k off because I went to the GT500 forums.

That still isn't MSRP, also I don't think you will see it being that bad. Maybe in the beginning. The memories of the 07 debacle is still fresh to a lot of people. People who paid $70k for a 07 GT500 only to see them on the market now for high $20k range.

That's because dealership's up here aren't legally allowed to mark up vehicles like they are down in the States.

Being a domestic, this may be a rare occasion where picking one up here and then moving it down south might work in the US buyers favor. Bases at $62K...will be just shy of $70K including Track Pack, Recaros and tax.

a little off topic, but i drove a 2012 camaro SS and i was completely disgusted with it, the thing was really slow and felt really big, with huge blind spots. all around terrible, absolute garbage.
i wanted to look into the ZL1, but i was completely turned off after driving a SS.

I've been following all news from camaro5 forums for the ZL1 and the gt500 forums for the ford.

So far hardly any news on the ford about how it handles and drives on the track other than the HP, TQ and 1/4 mile 0to60 times.

The ZL1 has tons of editor reviews on the racetrack. The ZL1 is to the camaro SS what the 323 is to the M3.

Yes it's that far off from all the reviewers. They say to NOT compare the SS at all to the ZL1 as its not 1 notch above an SS it's 5 notches.

A friend of mine ordered a ZL1 so I will be able to give a hands on street review of it in June that I am eagerly looking forward to.

I did say 4 k OFF MSRP right so even if they can't markup they marked it down... How does that make sense.

And yes they can still get away with marking up ... If you don't remember the original GTR was marked up by dealerships that hadn't presold and promised them to clients.

What they do is they use it as a demo and can sell a used car at any market price they can get for it. That's exactly what happened to the GTR here in Montreal.

Selling cars today had become a hp joke. Just like cameras. More megapixels! More horsepower!

If you know what you're doing with either, you need a fair amount but not all that.

some of the people on this forum need to relax a bit and keep an open mind. personally, as a car enthusiast i LOVE that all these mega multinational companies are spending unimaginable amounts of money to build better and better cars that i would like.

we car enthusiasts are in the driver's seat, pun intended. when i go to buy my next car i'll be able to choose something that's faster, quicker, goes around a track faster, etc.

Completely agree. I guess if they make a 2000hp mustang it will be the fastest, bestest, car in the world?

This is what a muscle car is....affordable big power. There has to be some compromise somewhere. The reason everyone is talking is that there hasn't been any serious American Muscle for a long time. The big German three, and the Japanese before that, have dominated the mainstream horsepower wars for several decades now. As far as affordable big power goes, the American muscle car is back !!!! If it really bothers you that much, for $30k you can have an ultra premium interior made to order and your GT500 will still only cost $90k !!!! Still a performance bargain.
