Best Loaner You've Had -and- handing ///M badges out like (super-expensive) candy

My car was in for a final warranty repair (evaporator) and I got a 750i as a loaner. A luxo-yacht for sure, but an incredible piece of engineering. The acceleration, handling and braking are amazing for a car so heavy and big. I put it in Sport Plus mode and pushed it hard on the way home one day - I can see why rich guys buy these...

It does still me off to see the ///M logo scattered around on cars that have nothing "M" about them.

I know that BMW's just a business, and it's good business to sell someone some stickers if they're willing to fork over an extra $3300 dollars, but I do hate the way that it dilutes the ///M brand.

I think it was seeing the logo on the door sills that really ticks me off. The wheels, I don't care as much - anyone can buy M wheels and put them on any car, but as soon as you start putting the logo in the interior, that says to me that the car is an ///M (which it isn't). As least the sub-M models that are getting the badge on the trunk lid have had their suspension re-worked by the M engineers.

M Package contents on the 750:
M steering wheel; Aerodynamic kit; Anthracite headliner; Front alloy wheels: 19" x 8.5", rear alloy wheels: 19" x 9.5"; Front 245/45- and summer tires includes: run-flat, rear 275/40- and summer tires includes: run-flat; V-spoke wheels (style 302M)

Despite my feelings on this, the 750i was far and away the nicest loaner car I've ever had (got an X6 once and hated it). That said, I was very happy to get my car back yesterday.

What's the best loaner you've ever had (not necessarily BMW-only)?

At least you got a 7 series loaner. All my loaners have been base package 328i coupes.

X5 diesel and X3 for me. Really liked the features in the X5 and the X3 had some pep to it. X3 handled amazingly in snow as well which was an added bonus.

I got a 535 and a 550 GT. 335i or D seem to be the most common for me. I do love the diesel though. It's awesome.

Just got a 5 active hybrid this week as loaner for wife's x5. Of course now the dealership was done within a day. When I get 328's, they usually take days.

I got an X3 once and was pleasantly surprised. Then a few 328i, which was good because it helped me realize the following:

- how good each car I was driving at the time was (example M3 vs. 328i)
- my addiction to certain features (which I was completely unaware of): navigation, heated seats, heated steering wheel, park distance control, etc. The absence of these items was definitely noticed.

damn it!! they always give nice cars in the states! here you rarely get any bmws usually they loan u a car from discount or enterprise which are usually cheap cars.
i have a full size range rover as my DD/Winter monster and when it goes into service i get an lr2 so i guess thats the best loaner i ever got.

as for the M badges everywhere i which they made a different lettering like audi's S and RS.

You guys are lucky... BMW of Honolulu does not have any loaners, nor do they give the option of Enterprise. Makes me sick that MB and Lexus here in Hawaii have a fleet of loaner cars and BMW has ZERO.

Best thing we get here is shuttle service.

I've had a 740i for the last three weeks while my car gets a new motor in it. I agree with OP about why people buy this car. The car has good acceleration despite the fact it's heavy and handles well.

Yeah that M thing drives me too there's a guy from my city that has a 330i with M badges an front fenders looks cool but not my gig. I'm also a Harley guy an like us with M Harley has a special breed called screaming eagle an there's certain part like eg: Gas tank badges Harley won't let you buy them with out a Vin# I think that's great. :-)

when i brought my e60 535i in for (it's third) HPFP issue, they gave me a brand new e 92 335i to tool around in. it felt great and to this day i don't think there is a sweeter sounding 6 cyl engine out there than the n54. which is why the 1 series m is so awesome (and my e60 535 actually. in the coupe it was just so much more potent).

My M3's engine conveniently exploded in front of BMW of Fairfax while visiting my parents and has been sitting there since Tuesday. I'm driving around in one of these for the time being....can't even drive back home with it because it's limited to DC/MD/VA.

X5 diesel - What a car! All the best of BMW's luxury features, full panoramic roof, rear cameras, 25 mpgs combined. Seats 4 comfortably. Needless to say, I spend all day driving it.

E93 328i - popped the top and it was only 45 degrees out!
