To be fair, the E30 is somewhat of a legend and respect is most certainly earned (not saying anyone here is suggesting otherwise). Both are rare cars, for a track toy GTS no question. For a collectable that you can still actually drive, the E30 makes and interesting argument. IN fact, it is my goal to one day have one of each model...call me a BMW fanboy I guess

I have both an E30 (wife's car),and an E92 M3, and I would take the GTS over the E30 M3 every day. The E30 M3 is a fun car from a time gone by, but there are current reliable hot hatches that will handle better. They are heavier, but also safer. I guess I'm a technology kind of guy which is why I'd take the GTS over the E30.

Not really surprising. Of course with each generation of any car, not just the M3, the successor is generally the better overall car but is it the better car to drive? You take an E46 M3 and the E92 M3. The E92 is the better overall car but there are many out there that would still take the E46. E60 M5 vs. F10 M5. The F10 is unquestionably the better car but again you'll have people prefer the E60. This conclusion came down to emotion. Yes the E92 M3 is a fantastic car, but is it emotionally there with the E30 M3?
Motortrend did a Head 2 Head with the FR-S, GTI and used the E30 as the benchmark car. While both said the FR-S and GTI were more practical than the E30, they agreed that the E30 was the better car to drive. |

The E30 definitely deserves it's great reputation but often at time people give it a little TOO much credit due to it's legendary status.

I'd take the E30. And I believe most of the decisions are made based in technology and evolving performance. I just love the way things evolve from our roots. Hard decision but if I can I'd take both!!!!

Take off the tacky ass spoiler from the GTS and it is a great looking thing.

E30 M3 is real touring car whit just softer suspension on street, but steering, frame and chassis geometry is pure Dtm-car, so very good benchmark today. Actually since E30 M3 anything revolutionary on chassis geometry or else not manufactured.
Edit: And E30 M3 is only M3 which first priorite is made it going fast on race track and then it´s modified little comfortable homologation model. Last edited by Tåst; 04-25-2013 at 02:41 PM.. |

The e30 is the definitely the choice when your driving in public roads most of the time. Your gonna have fun driving it in normal speeds. When im by myself, i would take the s30z most of the time. The fact you have no power assists and computers to help you drive makes driving the cars from the past more fun. That said... i will take the m over the z to the track though.
