All what I know is that when I was planing to get their stage 1 kit they had the same setup for both e90 and e92 ... VP of Dinan drives e90 and he gave me a ride on his car ... He told me that the kit is the same for e90/e92 ... Now it looks like it is different ...

I would not be surprised if the Sedan OEM parts of this Dinan kit went up considerably in price, thus the $200 difference. Too many OEM parts prices went up just last year alone between 40% and 50%, no joke...

Called Dinan.

JUST CALLED DINAN AND ASKED ABOUT WHY SEDAN SUSPENSION IS MORE EXPENSIVE.
And here is the answer:
Sedan (and convertible) come with Spring Perch (I have no idea what it is) that doesn't requires on the coupe.

AND ONE MORE THING:
They just launched 10% off sale. It's in the "special" in their website (Sedan and convertible owners still have to pay $989.1. And.. for lucky coupe owners will need to pay $809.1)

The spring perch is the lip attached to the shock body that the bottom of the spring sets in (near the top of part 1 below). It's integral on the M3. No idea why the sedan would be different from the coupe. Did you talk to Technical or Sales. If technical, they should be able to tell you the reason.

Well, that's better than a 15% rebate you never get.

0. I spoke to sales (Chris?) and he was asking to tech guy in the background. He couldn't explain exactly why they needed. But knowing their VP drives E90M3, I'm sure that guy could played some role of updating parts on the sedan from his driving experience.

1. I'm kinda thinking about getting just coupe suspension kit for my sedan if it's NOT that different parts (well-rest of the suspension products share exact same suspension kits for coupes and sedans. So I don't think it's not that different in terms of quality of ride).

2. Yes- I prefer up front 10% off over 15% rebate that I have to fill and wait like 4 months.

My grandchildren will enjoy "the rebate". It'll probably buy them a couple of beers then.

They probably have your money sitting on a CD account ... when the term is over, you'll get your 15% rebate

it just doesn't make sense ... if all of the sudden you need to buy spring perhes for this kit, how come they didn't sell them earlier to the sedan owners ?

and what about people who got H&R and Eibah springs ? how are they driving without spring perhes ?

Yeah someone talk to Steve Dinan and get an answer. People who are on this forum (and in this subforum) are more knowledgeable about cars than 99.99% of people on earth. It's amazing how much BS comes through from people who claim that they know cars.

I'll try this, I figure they shaved it to make up for the replacement bump stop?

I know how to get that plate out, so all I have to do is shave it by .3" and change the bump stop?

Fill me in if I am wrong please.

Thank you

Well I told them I had an E90 when I bought the kit but their website just had one price for every model. I have no way to know if I actually got a different set of parts than those with the E92 or E93. I don't think I did but since I didn't really focus on the part numbers I have no way to know for sure. The pictures of the kit are the same across the board. Something in the milk ain't milk if you know what I mean.

I'm planning to order stage I kit today and thinking about getting the coupe version for my sedan. Any suspension guru here please help me, do you guys think spring perches will be that important or will be just fine w/o it?

Called Dinan. Again.

I called Dinan again tomorrow as I'm getting very close to order a set.
I asked them why sedan needs spring perches that coupe doesn't requires.
I don't know anything about those things so I'll just tell you what they told me.

Due to the heavier weight gain on the sedan, they believe that it's necessary to add spring perches on the back.

That's that they said. So... do I need to get the sedan version with 200 bucks more or you guys still think that I can just order coupe version w/o spring perches for my sedan?

As you noted, the weight is virtually the same, though the distribution may be slightly different. Sounds slightly fishy, but if they're to the point of making stuff up they have totally lost it. I would trust their judgement to retain the warranty and play it on the safe side. Also, their spring may not fit the stock perch right and you will have noises.

Attached is the shock with the spring perch ("pad" in BMW terminology), part no. 8.

FWIW I didn't get rear perches with my kit and everything is fine. If I need perches now I would expect them to send me a set which of course they haven't. I was a big supporter of Dinan when I initially purchased this kit, and I have no issues with it to date ... but the fact no one can get a straight answer and this kit seems to change overnight without a proper explanation is bothersome considering the premium we spent.

Think of it this way ... none of the other springs offers provide anything other than springs so I am sure you would be fine with the coupe version if you decide to stay with this kit.

+1000, I have been accused of working for DINAN because I was happy with all my recent purchases. Also, if it is deemed 'necessary', I can't possibly be expected to pay for this oversight on DINAN's part. Frustrating to say the least.
