Can't wait to be able to order one of these. CG Lock is a pale alternative..

Call Schroth, Willans etc. and tell them you want to install a race harness into one of our pivot back seats with no provisions for belt openings at the seat, bolsters or shoulders, also having to cut the bottom out for a anti-sub and somehow hack a anti-sub bar or drill thru the body and see what they say?

You can't get the required angles, <20° from horizontal, for shoulder straps and running them thru the headrest is a total hack, clearly, you need a harness bar at the very least. Not to mention the risk of a harness holding the driver upright in a roll over onto a crushed roof without a roll bar or cage.

That's why the Schroth quick fit is a real solution, albeit one with compromises but they've engineering a system, not tried to mate two things that are genetically incompatible. I've seen crazy hacked "safety" items in ricer cars, forgive the term, and they're scary. I get the desire to have a harness hold the driver in place, it'll drop your lap times instantly.

Just because you've "sold and installed" stuff doesn't mean it's anything close to correct or safe. I've set up 4 racecars but not an expert.

It's one thing to argue about what color halos are the best, another to throw out things that put people at risk. The OEM safety systems in our cars are amazing, when you jack with it, do it with careful consideration, unless it's just about looking the part of a "racecar", then have at it.

From Schroth's sales info:
+1000 and I will also add that the certification Schroth received on the E36/46 required extensive testing, and the design itself was crash tested several times with an airbag equipped car - more than just engineered.

M3 Captain - will these be available for the E90 as well? Any idea if they are testing for the non M3? I have an E90 330i w/ sport seats and would love to pick up a harness. Thanks.

Captain,

I called today. HMS stated that the seats have passed requirements (M and non M), documentation has been written, but production has not yet started. No specific dates given... "within the next couple months, should know more within the next few weeks".

Quick question, I've read in the past that you shouldn't use a harness in a car without a cage or roll bar, because in the event you flip the roof will collapse on you. Any truth in this?

That's the big question... I'd like to know more about this too...

if you flip ur car ... the roof WILL collapse on you whether u have a harness or not.

if u plan on flipping ur car, get a welded full race cage .... anything else is a novelty.

This is one primary reason that I do not track my E92, and have pulled back from adding mods so it is somewhat track ready. I have decided that the car is way to fast to run on the track without adequate protection, and a cage and restraint system is the beginning, not the end to preparing the car for the track. I have tracked the E92, but with pulled back enthusiam and added caution - speed limit enforced. Just my thoughts.

My question was not actually whether the roof would collapse (partially), but rather whether the Schroth 4 point quick connect harness would keep you upright and get your spine crushed, when a regular seatbelt would allow your body to slip/tilt to one side and thus avoid permanent injury or death.

I think this has been the big question ever since they came up with this plug-in harness. I haven't received a satisfactory answer yet which is why I've never bought one for the E36 or E46.

But after tracking my E90 I realized that the only significant risk increase comes from bigger straightline speeds - cornering speeds are similar to previous cars. So as long as I stay on street or street-legal tires and as long as I don't chase the last 10-20mph on the straight, I think I should be ok.

Or not?

there are too many variables within too many specific scenarios of a 'roll over' accident to answer that question.
What u say makes sense .... and it could happen that way, i suppose ..... hmmm, OE seat designs would benefit from a fixed seatback (integrated steel frame inside the seat back) to help in that specific scenario.... of course we would lose the ability to tilt ur seatback all the way ... but who cares about that when it comes to improved safety.

I wanted to throw out this idea with everyone who's keen on a harness for the track day (including myself)

I am speaking with AE Performance to possibly fabricate a harness bar main from T-304 Stainless Steel, all mandrel bent tube, and TIG welded; powdercoated in any color you guys likefor about $400 range under $500. This is a bolt on harness bar that can be removed easily and bolts on to our car's B-pillar.

Sure this is not an alternative to a roll cage by any means but it is very useful for a 4-pt harness and opens up options for us to buy any harness we want.

I need to get a set of 5 orders for them to go ahead with this production and I want to gauge interest here before I start a dedicated thread with more specific info.

Please keep pm me or leave a msg here if you are genuinely interested.

I am interested. A few questions; 1) where would it fasten, or what would it bolt to? 2) would/could it be configured for a "Y" harness to fit the OEM seats, which are not dual-shoulder strap friendly? and 3) would it require ruining any part of the interior?

If it will fit the E90, i may be interested. I would also like to know how much modification will have to be done to the B pillar with installation and putting back to stock.

Did they ever start production? Had them on my E46 M3 and would get them again for a street car.

Schroth's Quick Fit Pro still seems to be vaporware for e90/e92, if they don't have it by next early spring, I'm just going to go with the Rallye 4. It ~does~ work for our cars.

Silly question, but is the size of the E36/E46/E39 so far off that you couldn't use one of those in an E92? My wife has the Schroth in her E36 M3, and I don't see why that harness couldn't be used in an E92.
