Speeding Ticket on I5 - 104 MPH

Got pulled over yesterday doing 104 mph. I have no idea about the traffic laws in California as I moved here a couple years ago. Have a completely clean driving record so I thought maybe a lawyer will be able to get it reduced hopefully. Any advice, experience, lawyer recommendations, estimates in fines?

Thanks in advance

Thanks hah, definitely getting a lawyer of course. Wasn't sure if anyone else had gone through this before.

104 is pretty fast over the speed limit on I5 where IIRC, it's 65-70 MPH, depending on the area of I5. There are some areas that have a heavy CHP presence.

There are some states that have a speed limit of 80 MPH however even 104 is fast.

on I5 coming out of la jolla headed south toward the airport right as I got onto I5. He actually seemed like a nice guy. "you have an m3 and you didnt know you were going 104mph?" "If you didnt slow down I would never have caught you." HE was kind of laughing but whatever.

Go light a candle bud! You got out off easy. I have a 100+ on the 118 in LA and they almost took me in but thank god it was 8AM and they saw that I wasn't a kid racer. Though I was on the sidewalk with cuffs on (NOT COOL)... I eventually talked my way out of getting arrested/car impounded.

Trust me... GET A LAWYER! I did so the very next day. Technically speaking they can charge you with a misdemeanor if the prosecutor has it out for you. Which can have unto 1 year jail time plus fines will add up quick and possibly worse. My court date is coming up so I'll message you my results.

You are a fortunate dude. I know a guy who was going just over 100 like you (in a 70) and he got to spend the night in jail, plus have his car towed. Neither of those is cool.

Lawyer up and hope your luck holds out.

I know anecdotally that 100+ mph in CA will have roughly the same effect on your license / insurance as a DUI.

what did the cop write your speed at on the ticket? if double digit speed, you will be ok.

I got 103mhp awhile ago, trial is still depending. But I hired a traffic lawyer. He wrote me over 65mph, but 103 for speed. It's treated as a 100mph ticket, meaning mandatory appearance in court. No easy bail to pay or TBD.

You're lucky mate. Going that much over the speed limit could result in your arrest and having reckless driving charges pressed, as well as having your car impounded. I would definitely lawyer up and see if you can get this brought down or even thrown out if the cop didn't have any proof of you speeding.

The more you address it the lower fines will get. Show up for appearances, suck up and say you were passing. They will try to extract money. That's all they really care about.

Sounds like Illinois as well. I've got a bunch of calls out to local lawyers. I'll keep everyone posted as to how it goes and the lawyer I used. Hopefully it goes well and someone can learn something from this.
